Do you know when or if they are still going to be released?

My friend said that they'll be coming out in August/September time frame? I'll be looking to buy a new HD for my own pc to take to Uni. I'll be looking to spend about £140 ish and I'll want the fastest HD I can buy. 60GB+ will be fine.

Also whats the current FASTEST IDE HD out there now? And how much is it?

Seagate Cheetah x15 @ 15k, Ultra 160 SCSI.

Fastest IDE according to my big seagate book is the 'Cuda family. 7200 RPM. If you want anything greater than 7200, (10k/15k) youre gonna need SCSI or fibre channel.

I'm pretty sure the fastest IDE drives are the new WD special edition HDs. They have 8mb of cache and aparently they are as fast as alot of 10,000 rpm SCSI drives

Fastest IDE HD right now is indeed the WD "special editions."

I got two from Dell for $139.60 shipped apiece.

Yeah I thought so too. Was just wondering if any other new devolopments have occured during the past few months.

I also looked at this website I think www.stroragereview.com ;P too lazy to check now, that hte IBM 120GXP is faster?

I'm up for the fastest one around August/September time.

So you recommend the WD special edition HD ones? Whats the *actual* noise level on it like? I've seen figures on it but want to know how loud it is in terms that are a bit more meaningful to me.
