Serial ATA driver?

Hey Guys,

I am about to pull the trigger on an Athlon 64 Mobo and am considering the Asus non-deluxe version at Newegg.
Will the motherboard automatically recognize my maxtor serial ATA drives or will I need to install a driver.
Also, is this new non-deluxe version of the motherboard a new revision?

Thanks,

Triforce

I may have no idea what i am saying, but i would think that your mobo will have no trouble with your S-ATA drive, it'll be Windows that has trouble.
Those who know better feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

Your right, unless I'm wrong too 🙁

Just make a slipstreamed XP disc with the SATA drivers included

sweet! could i also apply DX9B and all the security updates and WMP9 with that?

The rule of thumb here is that if the SATA controller is integrated in to the Southbridge(such as the ICH5), then you're fine, otherwise Windows will need 3rd party drivers to use the controller.

I had to install drivers for the ICH5 SATA as well. The easiest way to do this is to simply make a floppy that contains the drivers and hit F6 at the beginning of your Windows install. If you are looking at the K8V or the SK8V, these use a Promise SATA RAID controller, and not the VIA controller referenced in the previous posts. It looks like you can download this driver from Asus.
