Serial ATA Cables Too Short

Hello all:

After getting all my stuff together to build my new system I realized that the Serial-ATA connectors that come with the mb are rather short as are the Western Digital ones that come packaged with their drives. So my question is this, should I buy 3 meter cables(and are they all Serial-ATA II compliant?), are there extensions, and/or does WD make longer cables for their drives?

Thanks.

3 Meters! Holey Cow, That is almost 9 feet! Are you locating your drive on another plannet? What do you need cables that long for? Instead move the drive to a differant bay. Also I would like to know what kind of case this is being installed in. Thanks.

Oop sorry did I say 3 meters i meant 3 feet or well actually 1 meter. This is a Lian Li PC-V2100 so the drive bays are all along the bottom front of the case not like the conventional setup.

When I was upgrading my brother-in-law's Celeron 300A machine to take a SATA hard disk, the Promise SATA-150 TX2 PCI controller came with two 24-inch-long SATA cables. Those work good with the Lian-Li cases.. Longer SATA cables are definitely available yep..

For years Granite Digital made some of the industries best SCSI cables. Now their IDE and SATA cables are no excption. Get the external shielded version, It can to my knowledge be used intenaly. I recommend this when used with a Lian Li PC-V series because it gets routed through some holes with potential to sever some cables. External Cabels have been ruggedized and can take rougher treatment.

The entire height and/or depth of most cases is under 24" so how could the cables need to be longer than that?

.bh.

Thanks for the heads up. Do you know if all Serial-ATA cables comply with the Serial-ATA II spec?

I think so, but knowing what I know from the good old days of SCSI; Not all Cables are created equilly. I imagine that Just like usb 1.1 cables can be used for usb 2.0, SATA 1 can be used with SATA 2. But I would get certified cables or cables that comply with SATA-II spec just to be safe.
GraniteDigital won't do you wrong, I would give them a call and find out from them. They know there stuff.

They all comply with SATA V. I suggest buying 10 Raptors and setting them up with 3-meter cables.

Try Placeing the drive in the top upper-right 3.5 drive bay, the one closest to the hole leading to the motherboard. You may not need as much cable by moving it closer to the opening.
