Serial-ATA. are there controller cards like they had for ATA66 back in the day?

Remember all those old Promise ATA66 or 100 controllers people used to use on their boards that only supported 33 or 66? WEll ... how about boards that support 33/66/100 or even 133 -but don't support Serial-ATA? Can you get a "Serial-ATA card" of some sort, that would enable any kind of board (For example, a K7S5A) to use Serial-ATA? And would it be worthwhile if that does exist?

and where would one find this, and how much would it cost? my store doesn't have em and i can't find any places that do have. also... is the performance of a Serial-ATA drive noticably higher than an IDE drive? I have two 80GB (one 2MB one 8MB). They're both blazing compared to my old 20GB Quantum LM (7200/2MB) - but they're still not all that fast, even with 1024MB DDR. Would a Serial-ATA drive be kinda inbetween ide-scsi performance or what?

Does Newegg.com ship internationally? Newegg.com does not ship internationally. At this time we only ship within the United States and Puerto Rico.

Yes. Promise SATA-150. $52 at www.newegg.com.
Thanks X-Man - does newegg ship to Canadia?
you can get them all over the place in Canada it's not like it's something bleeding edge.

I don't think you'll see much of a difference unless you have an onboard SATA controller that by-passes the PCI bus. Even then, you need to use WD Raptors in a RAID0 config to maximize the speed. Of course the MB/dollar sucks too with the WD Raptors. Depending on what apps you use, it probably won't be worthwhile to get a SATA card and drives.

SATA drives are about the same speed as IDE drives. The only benefits thus far is that the SATA drives use thinner cables for better case airflow and the ability for "UP TO" 150mb/s.

And hotplugging and error correction/detection and lower electrical requirements and .......

hot plug and error correction/detection are available functions and dependent on the manufacturers. The onboard ICH5R on the P4P800 Deluxe doesn't have that functionality.

Lower power reqs are definitely a plus if you have a lot of components in your case.
