I have never watched the series but see a lot of people raving about it. The movie is on HBO so I decided to set it up to record. Does anyone think I can possibly enjoy it without having ever watched a single episode of the series?

Yeah, the movie is good enough that it can stand alone. The series has practically become a prequel to the movie because it was so good.

Yep, i know more than a few ppl who enjoyed the movie without seeing the series (then watched the series due to the movie).

Personally though, i would definitely watch the series first. It's what i did.

Watching the series first allows you to have a greater attachment towards the characters and certain parts of the movie mean more as a result of this. That being said, it stands fine on its own.

I was told by friends to see the series first. I just finished watching the last episode last night and will be watching the movie sometime this week probably.

I watched the series first and then the movie. You will catch a LOT more stuff in the movie if you watch the series first. I'd recommend renting the series and watching it, then the movie for the full effect. However, they made the movie such that you do not have to watch the series first in order to get enjoyment.

I guess I'm in the minority when I say to watch the series first and THEN the movie. I really enjoyed both, but I must say, the series made the movie much more meaningful and enjoyable, imo.

Kind of like Star Trek Nemesis would be good on its own, but would be just so much more enjoyable after having watched many of the TNG series, when you are familiar with background information, characters, etc.

That being said, Firefly is an awesome TV series, and the movie was pretty good too.

Likewise

x2 :) I bought the DVD set and watched all of the episodes in the proper order.

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me
There's no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can't take the sky from me...

Don't need the series to enjoy the movie. I can't however predict whether you will enjoy it. I don't know you that well :)

How is that??

Fox showed them out of order and incomplete. The best part was showing the 2-hour Pilot at the end of its run.

Just get the DVD set and watch them in that order (which is the intended order).

I saw the movie first, then the series. They're both great imo but I like that kind of scifi and humor, not everyone does.
