actually she lost 3 points (sportscenter showed 3 miss calls). not to mention that her game was taken off by the miss call.

Not to mention that Serena won the following point, which would have tied the set at 5-5. Obviously, there's no way to predict what would have happened on the following play had the judge made the right call, but I can see where Serena's coming from.

But capriati outright stated that she was bothered by the controversy during the next game anyway. No way to predict what the outcome would have been.

Nonetheless, I find it disturbing that there are so many horrible calls for serena and venus. Like the judge who had the wrong score, or the time that henin-hardenne cheated in the french open and the judge "didn't see it".

The Olympic long distance runner only lost a few seconds by being shoved off the track as well. Some people need to be kept in their zone.

how did henin-hardenne supposedly cheat? In fact, how do you cheat at all in tennis if you're not calling your own lines?

EDIT: and as for serena, my $0.02 is that as good as serena is, she should have been able to hold her serve anyways, or broken capriati further on in the set. Sure I would have been just as pissed with that missed call, but I would've known other calls had gone my way during the match, and 1 point really shouldn't make a difference, since it was early in the set. It's just funny to read that replays showed at least two other incorrect calls against williams, because they never say how many went against capriati. It's just human error, and it will always be present when you have line judges making the calls. I think the williams sisters just need to accept the fact that they might not be as dominant on the women's tour as they used to be.

In this case, you raise your hand just as Serena is serving to indicate you need a moment, then Serena's serve goes way off because she sees it, then when Serena says that you asked for a moment to the judge and the point shouldn't count, you then lie and say you didn't do that, despite the fact that we live in a world of instant replay where it is easy to tell that you did.

It doesnt matter if a bad call is made or not YOU CANNOT let that effect your game overall. you brush it off and keep going. in tennis you need to forget the last points and just focus on this point. obviously she didnt do that.

you are kidding me. ive played competitive tennis for a few years now. played varsity tennis my senior year in highschool.

it still doesnt matter if a mistake was made by the judge, mistakes will always be made. you just acannot let them effect you as much as serena said it did. its like one point changed her whole game, that SHOULD NOT happen if you are a professional player.

ah, well described like that it does sound like an underhanded play, but again it's only one point. granted I don't know what the final score was, but I highly doubt that happened on match point, so it shouldn't have mattered in the long run.

Agreed, I just think it's weird that so many things like that happen to the williams sisters.

I was just watching this old school anime flick called Project A-Ko, and she reminds me of the character, D.

well, I believe it's just the media trying to generate interest in tennis, which is good and all, but I hate how they focus on the negatives try to create controversy where there isn't any. I mean if it was anybody else besides serena, I don't think it'd be a big deal. Also, that whole deal on serena's outfit(s)? I mean c'mon, who needs a news story on that? I'd like to hear more positive stories, such as how Leander Paes (Martina Navritalova's mixed doubles partner) recovered from having a parasitic worm in his brain rather than "omgwtfbbq serena's wearing ugly as sin boxer boots made by nike, that's so scandalous!"

Sadly, not many will give a rats ass about a parasitic worm. However many will flock over Nike's endorsement products and OOOH and AHHH and critique it.

I for one could care less if Leander Paes recovered. Bill Clinton just recovered from quad bypass surgery. for both of them.

I doubt it's just the Williams sisters that get a bad call every now and again. But, since they are the top players, you are going to hear about it. I can understand complaining about bad calls, but as a player you have to shrug that off. There are errors in all sports. It's a part of sport. Don't blame the offical. Take action to hopefully correct the situation like fining or suspending the offical, but you're never going to have a sport called mistake free when human eyes are involved. I think these girls whine more and make the media print it because they are making big spectacules of themselves.
