I'm not right or left wing. But this is disgusting. I've been through any number of corporate downsizes, firings, etc. It comes with the territory in the Auto-Industry. However, you make those cuts in the way that best allows your company to continue to function. Many of the cuts I've seen in government, however, are fairly irresponsible.
When cutting something, you cut costs, and you cut PEOPLE. You understand that you will have to do more with less, and that includes less manpower. The upside of this is that you learn what is truly critical to your business and the rest gets thrown by the wayside.
Yet.... we're still funding personal cellphones, and a host of other initiatives. We're still ferrying congress critters on private jets. Funding large 'seminars'. The list goes on an on. Yet they've decided to cut things like tuition assistance. Money that has already been promised to people who are currently in school.
No one on this forum can tell me that we don't have thousands of people in the federal government and dozens of programs that can be downsized, BEFORE we cut critical programs that will get people kicked out of school.
In my estimation, laying off a person from government service is far less damaging that chucking a person in school under the bus. The government employee is likely skilled or semi-skilled, is represented by a Union who will provide them sub-pay, and can fall back on unemployment.
I believe these cuts are directly targeted as a way to influence voters, rather than doing them intelligently. That upsets me.
Disclaimer: I am not in school, nor in the military, nor do I know anyone who is.
