Sequence of ATI cards incl. Mobility?

I'm fairly well-versed in the nVidia line, having pretty much stuck with them from the GF3 line through the 4, 6, and 7 series, and now a GTX 260.

I know absolutely nothing about how the ATI line stacks up to each other, what's newer, what's more powerful, what looks powerful (according to the number/series) but is gimped (according to the suffix), etc. Can anyone point me to a resource that will show me some kind of progression of the various lines, and includes the Mobility lines? The charts at Tom's Hardware were the first place I looked, but there weren't any Mobility cards included, so it was of little use to my particular situation.

The Witcher's recommended is a X1900 Pro, and my work laptop (shhh) has a Mobility Radeon HD 3400 (256MB RAM), and I have no idea where those two cards are in relation to each other, and therefore if my laptop will run the game well.

The X1900 Pro destroys the HD3400. It's not really a contest.

The desktop X1900 Pro would be a class 1 card or at least a high-up class 2 card on their rankings.

Just note that you can't compare the names of mobile GPUs to the names of desktop GPUs. Mobile ones are usually clocked lower or gimped than desktop ones. For example on Nvidia's side, a desktop 9800GT has 112 SPs and is clocked at 650/1625/2000 while the mobile 9800M GT has 96 SPs and is clocked at 500/1250/1600.

from my experience with desktop x19x0 series cards and 3450's I can pretty much say that the x19x0 series cards are miles faster....at least 4x faster.

A 3450 is comparable in performance to the old 9000 series ATI cards (I think X1050 or x1300).

Even in hybrid crossfire on my GF's PC (X2 3800+@2.5GHz, GA-MA78GM-SH2, GV-RX345256-H)the 3200 and 3450 crossfire doesn't even come close to the old 9700 series cards.

The 3450 series was right on par with my old x1650 (non pro) when it was released. This angered me and i picked up an 8800GTS 320mb soon there after.

This post is funny. You bought a card targeted at the lowest end of the market and were disappointed that it didn't offer the same performance as a high middle end card that costs 5x as much?

There's no question that an X1900 will best a 3450, none at all. Having said that, one my my test bed systems has a Radeon 4350 in it. The 4350 is similar to the 3450, though it has double the stream processors and higher clocks, which seemed to handle The Witcher perfectly fine at 1024x768 with all max settings, minus AA.

I bet you could get the Witcher to run on your 3450 if you ran at a low res and tweaked the settings a little.

Umm it was more like a picked up the card that was the budget mid-range (x1650) that after a couple years the true budget GPU (3450) became faster. I picked up a brand new $79 8800GTS 320mb and that was that.
