Sequels... play the first ones first?

Just getting into the console thing and a lot of the new games are sequels... should I play the first ones first or just jump into the sequels that presumably have better graphics, gameplay, etc?

In particular:

COD: Modern Warfare 1/2
Uncharted 1/2

Thanks.

For the single player? Yeah, I think it's worth it. Not for the multiplayer though.

Can't speak for Uncharted since I have a 360, but CoD 4 has a good single player campaign. Definitely worth a rental. I wouldn't buy it since it's fairly short and the multiplayer will be made obsolete once MW2 is released in a couple weeks.

If you're asking if the first game is required to get the most out of the second game's story, though, I don't think it really is. But CoD 4 is a pretty good single player game in its own right.

Mostly along the lines of the last part... do I need to know the storyline of the first game to play the second, etc.

Also, I'll probably play COD online, but I really want it for split-screen play for when friends come over.

No reason to play CoD first since the next one is already ganna be here. Uncharted yes

depends..

i played killzone 2 and resistance 2 without playing number one.... it wuold just add a little bit of background..

i think you would be fine.

I'd play Uncharted 1 first, but I don't think you need to play CoD 4 before MW2. I would play CoD 4 at some point just because it has some really awesome levels, and it's pretty short.

I played plenty of games in reverse, when I had my PS3 I played MGS4 first then since it was backwards compatible played the previous versions. It works for some games, since they may be prequels rather than sequels.

Gears of War was the same thing, played 2 first then 1. I wish I played 1 first.

So you might be missing the big picture if you go backwards.

i'd strongly recommend it for uncharted because there are reoccuring characters in part 2.

and Uncharted is a great game too, but isn't necessary to understand the story. Expect for the recurring characters though, but even then it's just a little bit of information, nothing strongly related to the story.
