September 11, 2001 - where were you?

22 cortland street, right across from the trade center, after the 2nd tower was hit, headed toward the brooklyn bridge. by the time i was over it, tower 2 was down, with 1 to follow.
 
I was in 10th grade. I walked into my homeroom and everybody was watching the TV and I saw the twin towers with smoke pouring out on TV. I had know idea it was real. I thought they were just watching a movie or something, until about two minutes.
 
I found a word document written up by my dad shortly after 9/11. He details what he saw down in lower Manhattan that day and a few of his opinions on the matter. Feel free to pm me if you want a copy to read (it's kind of long to post here).
 
I was in the student league, with my headphones on, before heading to calc. I saw a whole bunch of people crowded around the big screen tv off in the other section, but couldn't hear anything due to the headphones. I walked past on my way to class and saw one of the towers smoking, and thought that there must have been an accident. when I got to class, everyone was talking about it, really on edge. the professor didn't know much about it and just continued class. I grabbed the first bus back to the dorm as soon as class ended, and on the bus a girl with an internet-enabled cell phone read off the news headline that both towers had collapsed, I figured that had to be incorrect simply because the hole didn't look that bad from the one image I rememebered seeing - I figure now that that must have been the side opposite the impact that I saw.

got back to the dorm and watched cnn for the rest of the day.
 
I was getting ready to go to school (california) time. And turned on FOX news and see one of the two towers building, I thought it was a movie or something. But then seeing the other plane hitting the last tower...:Q

I was surprised
 
I was in my dorm room reading Yahoo! most popular news. I clicked on a story about the WTC on fire. It didn't dawn on me under a minute later what happen. I ended up running around the floor waking everyone and turning on TVs.

That is correct. The videos of the first... "plane" didn't surface until the next day.

Commence conspiracy!
 
I was in Bombay, India on vacation and was just returning from a jeweller in the evening when my uncle called me and told me about it.. Didn't think it was a big deal until I came home and saw it on the news!
 
I was at work at Jefferson Lab, a nuclear physics laboratory in Newport News, VA. With the strong concentration of military bases and the nature of my facility, we were locked down by all kinds of security 'til lunchtime and then sent home for 2 days.

We were all in the control room of the accelerator watching the second aircraft crash. It was horrifying. My wife called me after the first one happened, I just didn't believe it was happening until the second one impacted. 🙁 🙁

I will never forget that day.
 
i remember. i was in 6th grade and we just got to school. then they announced that the WTC had just been hit. lot's of kids went home for some reason. i did live about 30 monutes from DC tho. it was weird. back then i had no idea what the WTC was. got home and saw my parents watching CNN. my friends visited the WTC like 2 days before!
 
In Houston, TX, just crossing Westheimer, heading south on Fondren when I heard the radio broadcast. I was going into work.
 
I was sitting in my dorm room and a friend that regularly wandered in (we kept our door open) said hey people just flew plans into the world trade center!
 
At the New York State Fair w/ JOURNEY, Frampton (?) & Night Ranger. Actually, we were at the Hotel when the attack started, and had to go to the gig for setup shortly after the second tower was struck.
 
Just walked into work, went to my desk, the billing lady (ISP I worked at ) came down and said "OMG a plane has hit the world trade center", couple of us went up to see it (those that had not clocked in yet), and stood there and watched.. Our phones were very quiet that day (tech support) as everyone was watching the TV I guess. We logged like 30 calls on a 450 + call day normally.
 
I was in grade 5. Shortly after it happened, our teacher went outside to talk to the principal, and she came back looking...very shocked and lost for words. She told us that the World Trade Center in NYC had collapsed after 2 planes had crashed into it. She told us she's not sure how many people had died, but for the rest of the day, the class was relatively quiet.
 
33rd st and park. working! was getting out of the subways furious because they were very slow after the first plane crashed into WTC and i didn't know anything underground
 
At work. We heard a plane crashed into the towers and figured it was private air or one lost foreign language pilot headed for LGA. And hoping it was not one of ours. We were watching on a 42" plasma when we saw the second one hit. Spent the next couple of hours waiting for news sorting out who it was, and where ours were. Wondering if I would get called to go to New York to help setup a on site unit (when we found it was UA and AA, could stand down.) Then we had a lost aircraft and got worried about that one. LAN Engineering then lost the LGA link after we heard about the towers falling (connects were in the basement of tower 2 IIRC). We had some guys jump in cars from various places to get back to ATL and had a couple drive to NYC as all traffic was grounded.

Have 2 degrees of seperation on one of the pilots from Boston through my mom.
 
At school taking the PSAT

all i know is i got done and one of the rooms had been watching news shows, and some of the kids were saying we "got bombed or something"
 
In High School, freshman year I think. Walked into science class and the TV was on, shortly after the first plane hit. I knew right away it was intentional, and I remember all the other kids laughing n sh!t like it was cool, and I was thinkin what a bunch of fvckin punk idiots. Then the 2nd plane hit.
 
i had moved in to my new apartment in Davis a week earlier, and my mom called me in the morning to tell me. School had not started yet so i was just bumming around hence why I was still asleep. After that I was glued to the TV for a couple days.
 
I was posting on AT at home. I read about the first plane here just in time to turn on the TV and see the second plane live before it hit creepy!



I was the OP on the Pentagon disaster. trying to keep it up to date for those with out TV access. Man that was the crazy day Here the posts came SOOO fast.
