Seperation of Linux Servers

Ok, so the firewall/router box needs to be seperate from everything else. What about a file server and a mail server? Can they both be on the same box? A friend was throwing away a P100 and I know it is wimpy, but it should be enough for a firewall. I have an old K6-2+ and as soon as I get a PCI controller card that will recognize my 200 GB HDD since the bIOS doesn't I will use it as a file server.

It depends on what you're going for. Usually speration of services is a good thing no matter what, you don't want one services problems to affect another or if someone breaks in via samba you don't want them to be able to f' with the web or dhcp server. But for a home network it seems like overkill to have everything on seperate boxes.
