Separate audio/video output on an ipad

I have an ipad air in an itrack dock (hooked up to big speakers). I want to send video from the ipad to a projector and have the sound come out of the docking station and speakers.

First is this possible. Most google results from a couple of years ago seem iffy but generally think no.

I've not seen anything more recent except a reference that update 5.2 on the apple TV might help (if I had separate airplay speakers).

If it is possible, does anybody know how to do it?

Bodge 1:

ipad to macbook with a cable to quicktime screen capture -> mac airplays video to apple tv and splits sound out to headphone port -> appleTV to projector and headphone port to mixing desk and speaker setup.

Ideally I would still like to do all this from the iPad and remove the MacBook from the equation but I'm still not sure if its even possible or how I would do it.

Do you have the Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter? Try that, plus plugging a cable into the headphone jack.

I'll give it a go but my main problem with that would be the projector is ceiling based and only has a short cable with the apple tv attached.
