Sentenced to Death Because He is Black?

In 1995 the 32-year-old Buck shot and killed his former girlfriend and a man in her apartment. At the trial a psychologist testified that black people were statistically more likely to commit violence. He was sentenced to death. The psychologist's assertion about black offenders has been the cornerstone of Buck's death penalty appeal; that his conviction was racially biased. In 2000 Texas Attorney General John Cornyn recommended that six cases, including Buck's case, be reviewed for racially biased testimony. Buck's case was not reviewed; the other five cases were reviewed but all of those offenders were sentenced to death again because the testimony was found to be only a small part of each trial.[3]

Not true! He is being executed because he executed a young man and a young mother in cold blood while she was on her knees begging for her life . He did it in front of her children. The fact that a psychologist testified at his trial that statistically black people were more likely to commit violent crimes doesn't change what he did. He committed cold blooded premeditated murder and was sentenced to death for that. Being black is inconsequential.

If you don't believe he should die for his crimes there is only one legitimate reason and that is because you believe the death penalty is wrong.

The mischaracterization that this execution is because of race is just a lie.

If he really committed that crime, death would be doing him a favor.

Even putting him in jail would be doing him a favor.....

Cases like this, when it's guilty without any reasonable doubt, put the fucker in the city square and let people torture his ass.

That would set the tone for rest of the criminal and watch the crime rate drop.....

Regardless of color.

Sentencing has to do with past crimes, not one's likeliness to commit future crimes.

The psychologist making an errant remark about race has absolutely nothing to do with the merits of the criminal case against him for the crimes he COMMITTED, emphasis on the past tense.

I also guarantee that in the jury instructions the judge did not ask them to think about the likelihood he would do this again, it was for the actions he already committed.

So you feel that being black is what made him commit murder?

Did he look at the color of his skin and then decide; "I am black, so I must kill!"?

HE is sentenced to death because of his actions - murder!

I am against the death penalty. Fuck or not we humans don't have the right to take a life. Prison for the rest of your life is much tougher and should be the punishment dealt. We are in the 21st century. One day the death penalty will be banned.

Question: Would you shot someone for cheating on you? Suppose you found your girl friend fucking with another man. What would you do in that moment? Beat the shit out of him?

You say we humans; but it is OK for another human to wantonly take a life or two without any concern?

If Prison for life is so much harder; then why are people fighting the death penalty?

Ya, i'm not going to sign a petition because he killed someone and wants to live. I can care less for his color but it does look like he will be a problem in society if I do sign it. NO!

We have the right to take someone's liberty away though through imprisonment?

Somehow prison makes a society more civil than execution? How do either show civility?

I think you should have included this in the OP.

That's fine and all, but then they should be forced to do something other than eat our food, and "chillax" all day. It saddens me that we as a society do not believe in punishing our prisoners. There's plenty of hard labor to be done out there, but our prisoners are above such things. That's my biggest issue.

As for this guy? Yeah, black white or green, fry him.

Then why the bullshit in the OP? If you want him to not be executed, then state it's because you don't believe in the death penalty. Don't imply that the death penalty wasn't deserved in accordance with the law.

That's fine, and I even agree with you to some point. But your OP is misleading in my opinion. He's being executed because he's a cold blooded murderer. Texas has a history of executing murderers.

While I'm not sure I like the government having the 'right' to end citizens's lives, I worry about innocent being executed, and I don't believe the death penalty is a deterrent as it is currently used (people sit on death row for years, even decades), I can't say I'd be sorry to see this guy go.

Buck then shot Kenneth Butler as he was trying to flee from the house. Butler sustained a close-range gunshot wound to the chest and lay dead in the hallway of my sister's home. Three young children - Debra's 13-year-old daughter, 11-year-old son and 12-year-old niece - also were present in the house. They had to step over Butler's lifeless, bloody body to get to a phone and call 911.

Debra ran out into the street, where Buck followed after her with shotgun in hand. Debra fell to her knees and begged Buck to spare her life. The three children stood in the doorway of Debra's residence watching. Shennel, Debra's 13-year-old daughter, ran and jumped on Buck's back, clinging to his neck and shoulders and yelling for him not to shoot her mother.

Both mother and daughter cried and pleaded for Buck to stop. Shennel screamed, "Duane, don't shoot! Duane, don't shoot … don't kill my mama!" Buck gazed down at Debra, aimed his shotgun at Debra's chest and pulled the trigger. She fell back in a pool of her own blood, as the three children cried and screamed in shock. After he was arrested and in a police car, Buck smiled and joked, saying, "The bitch got what she deserved."

The thread title is sooo misleading. The fucker killed 2 people. Death is appropriate in this case.

While I don't think the death penalty reduces the crime rate at all it should remain on the books, what about vicious pricks that rape then kill women or even kids, FUCK 'EM..death by firing squad or hanging, take your pick, none of this "injection until the heart is stopped crap" the victims didn't die like that, why should he??..

Move to have a mod change the thread title to something more appropriate? Like Dude kills two people in front of kids.. happened to be black, which had nothing to do with him killing.

Who says we don't have the right? Because in many states, we do have the right in certain circumstances, both through criminal court system and individually through self-defense/castle doctrine laws. Sorry, but you're wrong to assert we don't have a right. We most certainly do.
