thats the start of a sweet system.
but why WindowsME?
you should try out Windows 2000.

WTF, you sent your GW2K system back already? That was not necessary....you could have troubleshooted it a little more.

However you can assemble a better system if you so desire. Read the AnandTech reviews and search the forums to educate yourself on "what's hot, what's not".

My .02 cents as of today:

MSI K7T Pro2a or Abit KT7a raid
Tbird 1GHz blue core and overclock it
Alpha Pal6035 + Arctic Silver grease
Antec SX1030B
GeForce2 GTS 32MB or 64MB, possibly a GTS Pro
Pioneer 16x or Toshiba 12x
Plextor 12x10x32a
IBM 75GXP series HDD
Major brand PC133 or PC150
SB Live series soundcard
10/100 NIC
Windows 2000

I did a whole week of trouble shooting, first my mouse didn't work, then my sound card screwed up(they sent me new spekers, the morons), then I installed games none worked, my video card is messed up( new drivers won't help), I have had problems with my old gateway to that they won't help with, even though it's the system and not software( hard drive has errors and they keep telling me to run scandisk and stuff) it's a hard disk physical error not soft error.

Wow, that should be more than enough to build really fast one.
Do you need whole stuff, or you have some parts already except the ram stick?

people around here like enermax, but sparkle and antec are good too.
just get a gts 32mb, them buy nv20 when it comes out, you'll be a lot happier and put that money to something else like dual monitors.price grabber search for gts ultra $440 at compuplus
outpost has it for $470 shipped overnight, might try pricematch at staples

for cases you can get the antec, or a nice shiny lian something something aluminum case or addtronics/supermicro 7896/750. probably cost you more though

get the same stuff as john except maybe the acoustic edge sound card. just look for threads, i don't have one, so can't really say anything.

might as well go for a kt133a chipset and overclock or at least use the 133mhz bus.

just look at other threads and specific hardware forums video, motherboard, off topic here, same info being given already.

btw-i have an old gateway, its nice when they give you crappy parts because it breaks down then you get free upgrades :)

http://arstechnica.com/guide/index.html

Ars Technica always has 3 system configs to look at. The Hot Rod us usually good value system that kicks butt.

I'd go with a system alot like the guy above recommended. Make sure to get good brand name memory and a good hard drive (go with the IBM series). I kinda have a thing for MSI mombos though. Their customer service is good.

If your thinking of getting an NV20 in a couple of months, I'd just go with a Geforce 2 MX.
