What a coinkidink, I was just looking for some headphones around this price range ... anyone have any experience with these headphones and any coupons for buy.com that's floating around?

Does it look too bulky? =)

I have a pair of sennheiser headphones - HD-500. If you're considering buying them, check out their site (www.sennheiser.com), the headphone guide will suggest models based on type of music (Jazz & classical, Rock & pop, etc.) and use (portable, home stereo, etc.).

The 495s are supra-aural which is why I didn't buy them - they're made more for portable players. If you want a pair for home use and you're going to be wearing them for several hours consider a circum-aural set like the HD 600 or 500s.

agreee, these are low impedience, but the drivers are too far away from your ear making them rather ineffecient...

get a amp and they are the best headphones you can buy for under 100 bucks (when they were 89) :) so yea this is a smoking deal...

one thing.. i think there is a new model.. check sennheiser

I use this set running straight out of my receiver, (used to come from the headphone port on the Hercules Fortissimo II). I LOVE them. I'm sure an amp would help, but these are extremely neutral sounding, and the most comfortable that I've used. I has the 497's but thought they were too bassy, not to mention painful to wear.

The 495's are the best I've found for under $100.

If you want to learn all you can and more about headphones, headphone amps, etc... and a great place to ask questions for expert replies, go to this website www.headwize.com

I mention the site because I've gotten great advice from it in the past.

i jus got a pair from buy.com, the 212 pro's. i like em. i was choosing between the 497's and the 212's (open versus closed) and settled with the 212's. i'm not a hardcore audiophile, but these baby's sound really good.

headwize.com is good, or check head-fi forums.

and yes, eventually i will get around to gettin an amp. for now, i use them with my nomad ii mg and sb live. no complaints.

If anyone wants, I have a brand new Sennheiser HD-265 closed dynamic headphone for sale. These babies retail at $249, but the lowest price on the web is $190 brand new. If anyone's intersted, I'm selling them for $130 shipped insured. PM me if you're interested or want to make an offer.

These are nice and have great sound. They are open in that you can hear people around you and they can hear what you are playing. These are great for music as long as you are not looking for strong bass. My Sony MDR-V6s have more bass and are closed and are what I use for gaming.

Definately a great set of phones.... got a pair a month ago after buying several crappy pairs... very comforable... can wear for 6-8 hours straight.... the only downside is that they are open so if you are in an office they may be too noisy.

I got my Sennheiser HD-450's back in the 80's... had to replace the foam pads once, resoldered the plug a few times. But his was under heavy live/recording music production use. Got them on sale for around $75 (retail@$200circa80's). Not the only headphones I've had over the years, but the only ones I still have. Oh and they rarely leave the house anymore:) Get em love em

another vote of praise for these headphones. a bit loud to people around you, when you crank it up. sounds amazing compared to any "cheapie" headphones you get w/ CD player/walkman/etc. bass is actually pretty decent for me. for $46 it's a steal.

some very good portables, especially when linked with an amp. But still very good stand alones for folks that don't want the heavier "over-the-ear" cans.

take a look 495's at HeadRoom

and no I ain't a salesman for 'em; just purchased lots of stuff and been very happy with their products and services :D

So, I assume you don't like those $60 headphones you won on Ubid a few days ago.

SelectRebate once again offers the Sennheiser RS-80 Wireless Headphones for $159.99. Use coupon code "XXXX" to chop 15% off, dropping the price to $135.99. That's $7 off our last mention and the best price we've seen by far; most of the merchants we surveyed charged $200 or more
