Sennheiser quality. There is none. Stay away from them.

I've only had my Sennheiser HD545s for about a year or so...and they've cracked. The headband has cracked. Cheap crap plastics! I've replaced the cables once before, but man...this just bugs the hell out of me now.

My Hd535s ( I mean HD525), i've replaced the cables for too.

Damn sennheiser for charging an arm and a leg for "Quality" headphones. Next time I'm buying some Grados.

As for now, anybody want to buy some CHEAP HD545s? They are still functional, it's just they're split across the top band, held on by the foam support.

Well there goes Grado too. Might I have to buy horrible sounding headphones like the offerings from Sony, Aiwa or Panasonic? Gasp! NO! AIEEE!

I don't know about Sennheisers lower-end models, but I take my HD600s just about everywhere and they seem to take a licking in stride. No damage, cables are still dropout-free.

I have yet to own a pair of Sony headphones that last more than 2 years before breaking somehow.

I always thought they were pretty good. We used them at a radio station I worked at and they held up pretty well for all the abuse they took.

My HD600's are holding up well..but would like to try a pair of Grado's too. Any good on line site's to buy from??

Well, aren't you just brilliant. Yeeesh.

Sennheiser is the DEFINITION of quality listening. Too bad for you. Maybe you should learn how take care of your equipment.

Go ahead.
I've owned 2 pairs of high end sony headphones now, and both have broke on the head band (in the same spot, CHEAP PLASTIC) with just the most ridiculously small amount of pressure.

My next pair will be Sennheisers.

[rant]I have a pair of Aiwa HP-X222 headphones and they've done me quite well. Everyone has their own definition of "good sounding headphones", but these are the best I could find for $30. Yes, that's right. $30 is all I paid for these babies 2 years ago at Best Buy. I treat my equipment well, I bring them to LAN parties, school, work, etc. They have yet to show ANY sign of deterioration, discoloration, loose cabling, or broken plastic. I highly suggest you guys try something out before you begin to diss it. Go ahead and buy your $150+ headphones to think you have something that sounds better. I've tried the Senns HD600s and they sound no different than these Aiwas. Even if they did sound better to you guys, can you really justify the cost?[/rant]

My $0.02

I have a cheap pair of sony headphones ($30cdn), they've lasted me ~5 years and they're fine. Dad has some sennheiser headphones.. don't like em at all.

I've had a pair of HD500's for over a year now, and they're working great for me. I haven't had any problems with them.

Honestly I am an audiophile too.. and I have heard about and have used Sennheiser and Grado.. and I can honestly say, you guys should take a look at Sony. They really do make good quality headphones.

I have a pair of nothing incredible Sony MDR-CD380's and they sound very good for what I paid..

I recommend you get a set of Sony studio headphones.. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

A lot of people were heavily recommending the Sennheiser MX500 earbud series or whatever it is... I had previously been using a pair of Sony Earbud's that I got from best buy for 9.99$... there were some complaints that the mx500's were uncomfortable but their bass and quality were supposed to be the best for an earbud. After recieving them I must say they really are uncomfortable, in my ears at least, compared to Sony's 10$ pair, and Sony's bass is also better. Dunno who I am to really judge audio quality since my computer sound system was like 50$ total, but in my uneducated audiophile ears opinion the sony's are better

I don't believe the HD545s and HD535s are recognized as good Sennheiser cans. It's usually the higher end of their spectrum, with the exception of the 495.

You obviously haven't tried the sony mdr v-6, do a search at head-fi or any other audiophile site and you'll find a sh!tload of links..

$60 for audiphile sound!

My beloved Onkyo's have been nothing but trouble. First pair had a bad connection when I bought it. Replacement pair needed a plug replacement after only 6 months of light use, and now the ear cups and foam grilles are dying. If they didn't sound so damn good, I would have throw them in the fireplace long ago. When these finally die, I'll be headed for the nearest Sony retailer. 😉

For y'all that have problems with the wires falling out... Do as I and get some Sennheiser wireless 'phones.

I never have static problems at all...

Do you OWN Sennheisers? Do I? I own two pairs. I own lower end HD 525s, which retailed over $100 when new. They are still in flawless condition. Why? They are hardly used. They are used only in the home at times. It makes me feel bad about not using them, but after my HD545s broke down, I have to be this careful with them. I never took them out. I never threw them on the ground. They are always maintained well. They stay atop my desk. The wires tucked away neatly. They NEVER touch the floor. They are never slammed. They never have.

Want to know how my HD545 cracked? I put them on. You have sort of stretch them to put them on, like any headphone. After only a year or so of use, they cracked.

I also own HD545s. These retailed close to $200 when new. Sennheiser should realize that $200 should equate to more than just good sound. They should learn to make headphones that don't need replacement cables every few months or so. They should also realize that cheap plastics don't cut it in any headphone. Headphones aren't meant to be babied, yet my sennheisers always were!

erikiksaz,

Both the HD525 and HD545s were far superior to the HD495. HD545s were just under the HD580s in terms of sound quality, and their price tag reflected that.

Ah yes...and this is how much I've spent on my HD545s and HD525s to date: $60!

3 replacement cables! it's ridiculous!

Those Sony MDR V-6 headphones look interesting.

I'm wondering, does "Studio Monitor" indicate that they are closed headphones, meaning they block most sounds from the outside?

If anyone is looking for a sturdy pair of headphones buy a pair of AKGs. They will literally last forever. Plus they are much more accurate than Sennheisers or Grados.

Sony has serious quality problems. It seems the rubber that is used for the wires tends to stiffen up and become brittle. Happened to my headphones twice Can't they hire a material scientist to work through these things.
