Sennheiser has absolutely fantastic customer service, and their products are great. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I've got several sets of their earbugs, some RS85s and some HD600s.

They might seem flimsy when you first get them but they are not, they go throught a pretty tough assualt from me but they are still as good as new, maybe even fit better as the day I got them.

I have the HD595 and they are great. I don't see them breaking anytime soon.

Bose triports. The metal band broke loose of it's plastic casing, splitting the set in two. Junk.

I've got a pair of the HD-555's and after about a year and a half of constant use they started having some issues. Contacted sennheiser, sent them in, and got a brand new pair within the week.

I got a pair of HD650 hiding in the closet. Haven't used them in a while. Maybe I should give 'em a work out this weekend.

I have the RS-85. Great phones, but the left ear fell right off. This was after about 3 years so my warranty was shot.

I'm gonna get some HD515s though I think.

Make sure you get a headphone amp with it, or at least have one of those ht receivers to plug it into. They're 120ohms so they'll require more oomph to drive.
Get the HD555's if you don't want to fuss with an amp.
If you want to go portable, the Etymotic ER4P will provide nearly the same sound quality, if not better on the details, and take up a lot less space.

Actually the new ones are 50oHms I belive I could be wrong off the top of my head and though an amp is not necisary I would suggest to go with the 555's if you dont have one. Then again the 595's do get an awesome headphone clip stand thingy.

Amp can only go so far if the source sucks. I am a preacher of quality source.

The only thing is that it doesn't cost a lot to get a quality source.
For a jackson, you can get a Chaintech AV-710 that's comparable with thousand dollar cd players.
Thus, one should focus more on the amp.

I have a pair of Senn 600's that have had very heavy use for 4-5 years now. Every six months or so I have to replace the headphone cable-more likely because of my kids' abuse of them than any real defect. They are great.

You definately should get some sort of headphone amp, otherwise don't bother buying these. You can get a decent solid state headphone amp for well under $100-check out the homebuilders in the forums at headfi.com.

\Hmm .. I've been using these HD595s for quite a while without an amp for... year and a half maybe? I've always thought they sounded great but am I missing out on something by not having an amp - I only listen to music through my pc (x-fi extreme, lossless wav/flac). However when i hooked it up to a iaudio x5 mp3 player, i was disappointed, and sold it on, possibly lack of amp hurt here huh.

What im trying to say is... Would i really benefit from one in my situation? I don't know much about sound devices at all (apart from amplify [and it's loud enough already], what does an amp actually do  ) , but I like stuff to sound good :)

Yeah the difference could be like night and day.
Could you even crank up the volume with your x-fi?
Amps doesn't just make it louder. It's able to drive the headphones with more oomph. You'll get a much much fuller sound with an amp with high impedance headphones like the HD-595.
An amp for my Etymotic ER4P was like adding a third dimension.

Yes, the difference is night/day even for my Audigy1 vs Nf4 onboard. Listening even to compress mp3s, and playing any games the difference is huge for me at least. The sound is just so much fuller, and more dynamic.

Aren't you the same guy that tried to convince everyone there was no difference between 128-192kbpbs vs. 320+ and Lossless?
