Senior Pictures?

Top of the evening to you all,

So, Graduation is approaching pretty fast and I am trying to figure out what would be a good thing to do to commemorate it.

At the end of HS, everyone (well, not everyone) took Senior pictures at a studio. There were different packages, it was somewhat expensive so I am not looking for that. I think my mother paid $300 for a Photo spread with 5 different outfits, including a Cap and Gown photo, retouching, and a bunch of different sized prints. We got so many back that I STILL have pictures in the boxes. I am not trying to go all out with it this time.

I wanted to keep it simple, maybe find a Diploma frame that has a space for the Diploma and a picture at the bottom or something like that.

Did any of you take any Senior pictures? What did you do to prepare for Graduation other than getting your Cap, Gown, Rings...etc?

From college? I took some pictures with my parents and grandmas after graduation, in the parking lot, which was cool. But that was it. Not even sure where my diploma is now. Probably at my parents' house somewhere.

Not personal pictures.

I'm talking about professional pictures. At a picture studio...you know, like the ones that come to your kids' school to take yearbook pictures.

College:They'll only mean anything to your family/close friends. Go a cheaply as possible. I'd even forgo the yearbook if I had to do it over.

I do have my GrandFather's 1930 series of yearbooks from Clemson. Leafed through them once.....Haven't opened my 1986 Clemson yearbook since...1986.

Do you think class rings are worth it? They are placing orders now. Some people are getting the expensive ones with Gold and Diamonds in them.

I just don't see myself wearing a class ring. I might keep it in the case, but I don't pay top dollar for things that won't get used.

I don't know. I don't want to be unorthodox.

I am super excited and depressed at the same time that this is about to be over.

I'd rather be "unorthodox" than just do what everyone else does. Fuck that. I'd never pay a cent for a class ring, nor wear one, but if you want one go for it!

Trust me, you'll never wear your class ring. You still want one as a nice keepsake? The ring will end up in a drawer somewhere and you won't even notice it.

Trust me on this. Spend that $200 to go out and celebrate with your family or friends, I bet that's money well spent ten times over.

I thought it was unorthodox to BUY class rings. I don't know anyone who bought them in college. And even HS kids had a very small minority that bought them.

I have friends that still wear their Clemson ring after all these years, proud of their accomplishment and affiliation. I don't but I was quite the spectacular graduating failure that never used his degree so it was more than a bit of an embarrassment.

H.S. sits in a box too.

Got Gramps 1937 class ring too.

Yup. I wore mine for about a year, and it got to be too inconvenient for work. I /think/ I know where it is, but I literally haven't seen it in years.

Interesting.

I suppose I will just invest money on getting my Cap swagged out with something clever. I'm probably going to just do a BBQ at my Grandma's to celebrate Graduation. I can't afford to feed 10+ black people at a nice restaurant...and yea, I'd have to PAY for them lol :<

Well, it's become clear that you shouldn't spend $$ on class rings or senior pictures that no one cares about.

Ahh... to be young again. (wtf I talk like I'm 50).

My parents still have my high school senior pic on their wall.

Don't waste money on a ring. you'll forget it as soon as you graduate.

I got a class ring, but this was the generic school mascot discounted one and also when gold wasn't through the roof.

Don't bother- you won't wear it beyond the summer you graduate.

Did not have any college grad pix taken. I do wear my class ring to social events since they are distinctive and easily recognized in this town (so it's a networking prop).

Did not even attend the graduation ceremony. Went to dinner with my parents and then-gf. At the time my parents were disappointed that I didn't want to attend the ceremony, but after a little time went by they realized it didn't matter.

Don't listen to these crotchety old farts.

Everyone loves class rings. They are a tremendous display of clout and are fantastic ice breakers. I wear my high school, college, and law school class rings out all the time, and am always stopped by people to discuss my schooling. I can't tell you how many multi-million dollar clients I've obtained by nothing more than a firm handshake, followed by the inevitable... "you went to THAT high school? OMG me too! Here, take my money!"

I would order two class rings, just in case you lose one.

I guess it kind of depends on the school. At Texas A&M class rings are surrounded by tons of tradition, pretty much everyone gets one, and most wear it. So I have the ring, but no pictures or anything except for family junk.

Congrats on your graduation. Take a few pics from your celebration party bash. That bash will give you some awesome memories. Do something that means a lot to you. Try not to get arrested. Those are memories you don't really need.

College right? Pictures are kinda worthless beyond your direct family. Get it if you want but I think you'd enjoy spending the money on a nice dinner or a trip. Most of us printed out a snapshot picture of us in our cap and gown with our families and SO holding all the balloons and bears and whatnot and were perfectly happy with that as a reminder. Class rings are tacky and nobody cares about those. If you're in a social circle that finds those important then by all means buy one but most people will think you're kinda weird to wear one. It'll be a very event specific thing to wear it and the rest of the time you wouldn't want to be caught dead wearing it.

wow. You really ARE a kid! Puts some posts into perspective ;)

Anyway. Another vote for no class ring. when you get all growed up you will NEVER wear it. Nor will you take it out of whatever box it will certainly end up in within 12 months.
