Senior Discounts

We had breakfast the other day at Carl's Junior we were about to leave town and out of the corner of my eye I see a sign "coffee .25", and I think to myself can't pass that up so I order two and the guy charges me like $1.94 and I asked him about the sign and he said it was for seniors only (and it did).

So I thought to myself isn't that discrimination, how about we put .25 for whites only, that would never fly, or 10% off for everyone under 30.

Perhaps I have too much time to think about all the trivial things in life, but isn't that just strange (almost as bad as the split plate fee).

While you're fighting the good fight... you should take a bat to the people in HR who force early retirement on the old folks as well. That way there would be no excuse for 65 and older to receive discounted prices.

Life is full of unfair things. Children get food/entertainment at reduced prices as well. Get over it - you benefitted as a child, and you will benefit as a senior as well. It applies to everyone (since everyone was a child and everyone will get the discount if they live to be a senior), so it isn't discrimination to me. Your argument for whites only doesn't apply to everyone - and thus it is discrimination.

Other things to consider:
1) Many places that give senior discounts also give reduced portion sizes.
2) Children and seniors have little or no income - thus the restaurant wouldn't get nearly as much business if they charged full price. The business thus reduces the prices slightly to maximize the money they take away from the kids and the seniors. Would you rather that these groups are forced to stay home and only people aged 16-65 are allowed to go to restaurants?

Many seniors are on a fixed income. You probably have a job. Quit being a little bitch about the coffee already. 😛

whats wrong with that ?? as long as you don't die before than, you are destined to become a senior one day too ... just deal with it.

My mother can take in-city public transportation for free (>65). Students pay half, I think.

In many places of the world students and senior citizens get discounts on movies, travel, cultural events, etc. Nobody's complaining.
