I should start by saying that I've been using Google Voice for a good long while now, but I was on Sprint which integrates much more closely with the service than any other carriers.

Now that I'm on a T-Mobile prepaid plan I'm running into some issues. What I'd very much like to be able to do is use GoSMS to send texts from my Google Voice number. Is this possible? Or can you only send from the GV number from inside the Voice app itself?

nope, not possible. the google voice service doesn't have a public api for other apps to use.

Was afraid of that. Hopefully they'll offer the same integration they've been testing with Sprint to other carriers soon.

Thanks guys.

An option that you can try is to do sms forwarding from GV to your actual phone number. You will receive the text on your phone coming from a different number than the person who sent you the text. If you reply to this number (using whatever text app your phone has, including GoSMS), the person will receive your reply looking like it's coming from your GV number.

This of course will use text balance on your TMobile line (or ppu, depending on how your plan is setup, I'm not familiar with Tmobile's prepaid plans) so for some people it's a deal breaker.

The original number will be included in the message as well. After the first one you just need to add that special number (where this text came from) to your contact list as this particular person's 'text number', and just send text communication to that number. He will always get it from your GV number.
