I'm using a note application called Post-it Software Notes and I'm supposed to be able to send notes from one compter to another on my LAN. However I receive the following error and the send fails. "Error: 80040155 occured while sending". I've also received this error "Error 80040154: 158: Unable to connect to receiving computer".

I've called the tech support line for this software and they had me ping my two computers, disable my firewall, uninstall/reinstall the application, verify some DCOM settings and uninstall/reinstall TCP/IP. None of these fixes has helped. They claim it must be a problem with my network, but I don't see how since all other network traffic works just fine. If anyone knows what those error messages mean, maybe I can figure out where the problem is.

If it matters, one computer is running Windows 2000 and the other is Windows XP Pro.

Thanks!

my guess would be firewall or name resolution.

Can you do a "net view <computer name>" on each computer? Can you ping each computer by name? Are they in the same domain?

Spidey07,

I can ping by both computer name and IP address. Both PC's are on the same domain. Net view shows any shares and so forth.

Thanks,

OK, then that means you've got good netbios/windows networking.

Can you load a sniffer or microsoft's network monitor on each machine and look at a packet trace?
