sending items to another pc

Hey guys, I'm putting together my own pc and instead of burning all the items i want from my old pc to a bunch of cds, i was wondering if i could transfer all my items to another pc directly. I remember someone showing me howda do this along time ago but i forgot, sorry. Thanks.

If you aren't setting up a network and just want to tranfer files, I'd just pull the drive from the old computer and stick it in the new one as a slave drive. Then you should be able to view them both and transfer whatever you need.

Then when you're done you can just take it out.

The other way you could do it is with a crossover cable connecte through the network ports or with a router and both computers in the same workgroup. But having 2 drives in one computer is going to be the fastest way.

You wouldn't use a router to help transfer files. Not on the same network anyway. If you don't want to use a X-over cable you'd use a switch or hub.

Could use a router just fine if it's giving you your network connection. If he's going to have multiple PCs connected to a broadband connectino then he'd need a router anyway...

hm, well if i can get my roomate to do the hard drive instertion i'll do that, but i'm not really familiar with moving hard drives. If not i'll get a router and take it back 🙂. Thanks guys/
