Sending in Rebates: But I am Moving Soon

I'm buying some computer equipment over the Internet that has rebates. However, I am moving very soon (in less than 8 weeks), so even though the equipment is going to show up at my current address, I will no longer be here when the rebates show up.

Will it be a problem if I put a different address on my rebate form than the address that shows up on the invoice copy that I send in? Should I write a note on the rebate form explaining this? Thanks!

I bought a DVD player from BB a few years ago. Paid for it with my CC, but wanted the rebate to go to my dad, because he and I have a joint CC account. Same address. They denied my rebate!! Keep in mind that if I had paid cash, there would never have been an issue, but because it said Albert instead of Blaine on the rebate form, they thought it fit to deny me. The point is that they scrutinize these things, looking for any reason to deny a rebate that they can find.

My suggestion: since you're going to leave a forwarding address with the post office anyway, just use your old address, and the Post Office will forward it to you when it comes.

Not always - if the rebate check is marked Do Not Forward - Address Correction Requested, it's about a 50/50 chance that the rebate check will get sent back and you won't see it again.

It worked for me with a $20 rebate from D-Link - I just moved last month and the rebate did get forwarded. But sometimes it doesn't.

Best bet is if you move before the expected rebate fufillment date, call their rebate department and have them update the address. Worst that will happen is that they'll say the rebate has already been sent and if you don't receive it in like 2 weeks to call back and they'll cut a new check. (Done this too).
