Hi all,

I am having trouble with using Microsoft Fax to fax .pdf files. for some reason it is received on certain fax machines and on others it never works. Would buying a fax program (Like Smith-Micro's Hot Fax Message Center) solve this problem, or does it relate to the windows software. My all in one printer faxes to everything, but I would like to be able to fax documents that are already on the computer.

any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Tom

Most all in one printers have the ability to fax documents that are on the machine. You'll need to check with the software that came with your printer.

What is the error message you are getting from Microsoft Fax? Do you get a delivery confirmation? Is there an error on the recieving fax machine?

The problem is most likely the fax modem in your computer. Not all modems are compatible with each other.

You could do some searching for some initialization commands for your specific modem that may or may not help.

I could fax to my wife?s office just fine until I chose a driver update for my modem through Windows Update. Now, they can't communicate at all. So this can also be a driver problem.

I don't know if they even sell them anymore, but a true, dedicated fax modem may solve your problem. It's a how much do you want to spend vs. how important is it to you kind of thing.

And it's not a guaranteed solution because, once again, not all modems are compatible with each other.

HI and thanks for the responses.

the fax modem is always connecting to the other fax machine, and starts to transfer the first page, but all of a sudden, a message will come up saying that the fax failed. There is no error code that shows up. For some reason, it works sending to some fax machines and doesnt on others.

Ive tried this with two machines, my old one had windows xp home with an external us robotics faxmodem pro. I also just got a new dell 8400 with an intel modem that came with it. Using windows xp media center 2005, it has the same problem.

I also have a canon all in one printer model MP730. I can fax directly from the printer, but it's software doesnt allow for a cover page when faxing within programs, so I have to fax a cover page then send a separate fax with the document. Very annoying.

anyway, Id love to hear suggestions on what might work either within windows xp or using the all in one.

Thanks again for the help,
Tom
