So his ipod thing went sour? I thought he posted a picture of all the ipods he got

Ipods are especially risky because a huge percentage of them are fakes. No joke. China manufactures real ipods, but they also manufacture fake ones. When dealing with iPods one must be absolutely certain of the source.

And... what if you're wrong? Then what would your explaination be?

Better to be wrong than out $11,000.

I know the Fort Leavenworth Base Exchange got 20 units. The local Best Buy had 40. Another poster here said the Gamestop he worked at had 32. And your private sources have 20 or 30 each? Smells fishy.

No, they have 1000 units each. That's my point. 1000 is the minimum quantity of XBOXes that ANYONE can order from the factory.

The chain had to order 1000 minimum, but the local stores only get so many. And why would they sell 1000 to your guy and not another much larger customer they want to keep happy. And thats assuming the minimum order thing is true. Not everyone can call up and order 1000 units.

Did they confiscate his ipods? Were they fake or just stolen?

Link to original thread? All I found was a two-month old thread about an eBay thing that got taken off. I can't find anything about him actually going through with the transaction...

don't have a link and not going to bother looking for it. He got part of the shipment IIRC and then made more purchases, then went off the radar for a while until he came back talking about how SY was investigating the deal. Probably got deleted, as people we basically telling him he got what he deserved...

and who makes the XBOX?

I would assume they are made in an Asian country. I think Singapore. Regardless, XBOXes are a LOT harder to fake than iPods, especially when the shipment is being inspected by SGS or Hellmanns.

You can make all the arguments you want, newParadigm did the same thing. In the end this is a shady deal and you're taking a big risk

Who's got who by the balls? Microsoft, who's making the most sought-after gift this entire year, and who can sell to anyone they please because of the demand, or big chains like Walmart, whose profits depend on MS?

They have a plant in Mexico and in China. Both upstanding countries that would certainly kibosh any pirate operation. 😉

Walmart. What would MS do if all Walmart stores everywhere took all MS product off the shelves? Walmart des what they please. PERIOD. Read up on how they beat down suppliers routinely on price and supply.

Yes, Walmart is obviously in a place to lowball MICROSOFT, especially when they can only get 10 units per store. Microsoft's not going to be lowballed by anyone right now. They are currently selling their XBOXes for a lot less than the cost of manufacture of the system, in an attempt to do a printer/ink tactic.

Part of being a good businessman is knowing how to take calculated risks. Methinks your TI-83 just blew up.

Good luck to you. Fill us in on what happens next..

If i had that many x boxes, i would just sell them myself on ebay and cut out the middle man. Prices are already dropping on ebay, by the time this guy has them margins will be slim to none.

Unless the wholeseller has a stellar verifiable rep, and you can pick them up in person, id run as fast as you can away from this.

Trout, it looks to me like you're about to get owned. No matter how you slice it, the guys ordering thousands of units of MS products (Best Buy, CC, Wal-Mart etc) are much more likely to get their shipments before some small-time vendor is. MS has a hot product in the xbox, but they are not about to sour their relationships with some big retail vendors just to be able to sell to a few small-timers. It just doesn't make sense.

Good luck to you though, hope it all works out and you make a bundle for your efforts.
