sending 2gb file and takes 35minutes

Hi,

i am sending 4 files total of 2.18gb from computer A to computer B.

setup:
A uses Hitachi 80GB 8mbcache
B uses WD 80GB 8mbcache

network through my dsl modem.
actually my computer A connect to the internet directly and computer B is connected computer A in order to go to the internet.

now it takes 35minutes for 2gb files., is it normal? or is there a faster way?(except burning dvds)

Doing a bit of math here..

2 GB =
2,000 MB =
20,000 Mb (Yes, technically you divide it by 8, but dividing it by 10 gives some room for network overhead and usually works OK)

Most decent PC's will usually get around 45-50Mb/s, which would work out to about 7 minutes to transfer it.

If it's taking 35 minutes, you're getting about 9.25 Mb/s, which is not so hot. I'd guess that you have some kind of network problem there. This could be caused by bad cabling, speed/duplex problems, etc. Try things like replacing the cable between the two machines, messing with the speed duplex (set them both to 100, full duplex and re-test, set them both to 100 half duplex and re-test, set one to auto, hard-set the other to 100/full or 100/half, etc.).

He's referring to the advanced properties of your network card. Go to device manager/network adaptors/"YOUR NIC"/Properties/advanced. You may have to go through the options to find them .... but those settings are there.
