Good to see Rep and Dems coming together to tackle the tough issues facing our country

an entity that would carry out federal boxing law

Uh....is there any other sport that has federal laws governing it?

congress needs to focus on frog jumping competitions next.... virtually no oversight and steroid use is rampant.

Absolutely retarded. Have they learned nothing from the whole Roger Clemens debacle. Congress needs to focus on stuff that actually matters.

Not to say that they need to or don't need to regulate boxing, but you may want to take note of two things before bitching about regulation of baseball:

1) They have a legal monopoly that allows them to rake in money by the supertanker. This gives Congress the right and the power to regulate them.
2) Congress is more than 1 person and can actually do multiple things at the same time. (Now, those televised hearings, those are more about grandstanding than actually getting work done)

1) baseball isn't a commodity

2) they need to focus on things that affect the economy and the country. I'd like to see the entire 435 members of congress get together for a session and try to come to a real solution about what to do about that stop-light at the corner of Camden and Main street. That's a delema that needs to be solved ASAP and we need our countries best thinkers on it NOW.

I get the cute idea. However, the entirety of Congress need not work on the same thing all at once. In fact, that's a magnificently bad idea. Ever noticed that the more people with equal footing you have in a room, the less likely you are to have any sort of agreement on anything? Personally I don't think there's a need for this bill, and I would think it will likely not get anywhere. However this idea that whenever a Senator or Representative introduces a bill that isn't what YOU believe we need most means that bill is a waste of time, well that idea is just silly.

Anything McCain does is fail. That man should retire sooner rather than later. Mr. Enemy Combatant himself. IMO he's a treasonous coward.

Boxing may need regulation to reign in corruption but its not the governments job to do so. Government is too big and has its hands in everything as of late. The regulation needs to come from boxing itself.

hmm i have mixed feelings on this.

a) boxing is so fucking currupt it needs to be regulated. There is tons of money from bets, PPV's etc that it needs the goverment looking into it.

B) WTF damnit don't they have something better to do?

its a mix. i understand why and it is needed but damn..

Not to derail the thread, but wow. He's a decorated hero who has sacrificed infinitely more than most. Hate his politics, dislike the man, that's all fine, but a treasonous coward? Just wow.

Back to the topic at hand, I think this is a great big waste of time. Boxing isn't the entity it was back in the 70's and 80's, it's just not relevant anymore. Sure, it's corrupt and crooked, but really, who cares?

The concept that they have anything better to do, is quite retarded. The partisan divide simply does not allow it.

We already knew McCain was a RINO, always has been. Yet they nominated him. Shows you a lot about Republican corruption.

We need government officials to overlook boxing!
***government official is bribed to look the other way***

We need private industry to overlook boxing because the government is too corrupt!
***cycle continues***

So... the guy co-authors a bill you don't like.... and thus we should throw out his long record, his personal sacrifice and service, his decorations for acts of heroism, and label him a "treasonous coward". Just wow, what an idiot.

My apologies OP. I have derailed the thread. That I am guilty of.

Yeah the bill is something I don't like. Do you? I really would like to hear how you rationalize what is in effect legalizing a dictatorship. How anyone could not see this as treasonous is beyond me. Talk about partisan hack.

Partisan hack? You mean I'm a big partisan hack for Lieberman? I don't like the bill at all either, it was misguided and dangerous as far as I'm concerned, but the fact remains that you're calling someone with a long track record of service, personal sacrifice and even heroism a "treasonous coward" for nothing more than co-sponsoring a bill you disagree with. Serious nutcase.

Ok big guy. You are entitled to your opinion so how about we leave it at that? Fair?

McCain has a long history in the Senate in working with Democrats to assault conservative principles.

To paint the picture for you, in 2008 Mr. Universial Health Care, Mitt Romney was the 'conservative' alternative to John McCain.
