And to think this asshole holds up the Russian sanctions he signed which was passed pretty much unanimously by congress as proof that he isn't a pawn of Putin. In reality this signature was meaningless. When the sanctions passed with near unanimous votes, it was going to happen whether he wanted them to or not.

Not covering for Reps in general but no one but Mitch can bring a vote to the floor and he sees to go against those who approved a compromise before. This is really Trump and Mitch's shutdown and perhaps McConnell is the worse of the two in surrendering the rights of the Senate to bow before Trump.

I'm all turned around on the sanctions news: wasn't there so e sort of brouhaha earlier about the Trump admin enforcing the Russian sanctions in the weakest possible way or against a list pulled out of a Forbes magazine or something?

So are the Republicans really standing up to Trump on Russia, or are they just playing the game of looking like they're tough on Russia?

This is a pretty big win for Chuck Schumer.

It's also not only a loss for Putin and trump, but also for Mnuchin who miserably failed defending the sanctions to the Senate.

The big test will come soon to see if the Dems can get from 57 to 60. Pray that the capture of 11 Republican votes will break 3 more away, assuming Trump vetoes.

except without 60 votes (they have 57) it wont advance unless they can convince 2 or three to change their votes.

Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, a member of the GOP leadership who voted against advancing the Schumer resolution, was pleased the measure fell short of 60 votes because Republican leaders would have essentially lost control of the legislation.

"I don't know exactly what's going to happen but as long as there are not 60 votes to conclude it, maybe that will force a negotiation on having a markup on tougher legislation in the Banking Committee and Foreign Relations Committee," he told CNN after the vote.

So McConnell had the senate vote on this helping russian billionaires but refuse to allow a vote on the shutdown vote that passed the house that would allow furloughed Americans to come back to work along with all the other ways people are getting shafted with this shutdown. Treasonist asshole.

When does Mitch face a real challenge for his very obvious shirking of his elected duty by essentially removing a fundamental pillar of our established checks and balances system? Do Kentucky voters simply not care or honestly not understand what he is doing? Do they just not understand how this country works?
