Senate panel details Trump pressure campaign at DOJ to overturn election

As I’ve said before if Trump were offered an opportunity to push a button that would kill 100 million Americans but would overturn the election and make him the winner and president again he would push it in a heartbeat.

Replace "100 million Americans" with "100 million Trump supporters". He'd still push the button as long as it provided him with instant gratification.

That's an interesting proposition: would you willingly give Trump one additional term as President if it meant that his base, and thus a large portion of the GOP, gets permanently Thanos snapped into non-existence?

Honestly that's a tough call. How much damage could be done with another 4 years? A fuckton. But then you'd actually have a legitimate chance to rebuild.

I don't want to put 100 million wanna be fascists out of existence, but if they would all magically appear in Russia, and the fuck out of this country, then we can talk.

They'd love it there -authoritarian leader that mocks democracy. Hate the gays, check. Very caucasian - few hispanics or blacks or muslims. THis is huge for Trunpies. Check. Live in a country that also wanted Trump as president of America. Check.

They'd love it there.

How much damage could he do without his supporters though. No more rallies, no audience for Fox/right-wing media, etc.

While that’s pretty funny I think the main problem is a second Trump term has a reasonably high likelihood of being the end of free and fair elections in the US.

What, shrugging your shoulders no longer stands up in court?!! 😀

The entire philosophy of Trumpism appears to be “Whatever we want to be true is true. And if it turns out not to be true, it was just our opinion anyway and you can’t blame us for having opinions.” And then portray themselves as clueless idiots who didn’t know any better.

The defense seems to go as follows
  1. While simple research might show that my claims were false, I didn’t see any of that evidence before I made my claims.
  2. Therefore I didn’t have any reason to not believe what I was saying.
  3. Based on the case law of Costanza Vs Seinfeld (1995) “It’s not a lie if you believe it”
  4. So I didn’t lie.
  5. If I didn’t lie I must have told the truth.
  6. Truth is an absolute defense for defamation
  7. Therefore the case should be dismissed.
The only way that works is if “The Children of the Corn” are on the jury.

What is coming out of this inquiry should be very disturbing to every American. It should be the Watergate of the decade. Even Nixon never went as far as to plot to overthrow the US government rather than face resignation. And yet, here we have Donald Trump running around the country, holding rallies, and plotting his 2024 presidential campaign.
So, what exactly does it take to convict a person, any person, of treason against America? Of plotting a coup? Obviously, nothing that Donald Trump has done qualifies as going too far, and still Trump walks around as a free man.

Sometimes, I wonder if that coup was indeed successful after all? If this Donald Trump republican party is simply waiting for the enviable to take place, Trump's return. This weekend Donald Trump will hold yet another rally, and attending will be none other than Senate Chuck Grassley. That right there tells me that despite Joe Biden having been elected and currently sitting in the Whitehouse, it doesn't matter. Republicans seem to be running the show and awaiting for what they believe to be the enviable, the return of Donald Trump, and I call that a successful coup.

So what comes next? Next will be the retribution.
Believe me, we can not begin to imagine the extent of the retribution or the extent of its reach. Remember those personal bomb shelters of the 1950's? Well, democrats may get some use out of them after all, as a hunted political party.

Agreed. Even on the state level, we'll see if even a Trump sycophant will have the balls to overturn the state results when it comes down to it. Might depend on the margin in the official count.

There is also the possibility that Trump legitimately wins in 2024. In order to guard against that and ensure the widest margin, democrats need to make sure to get Biden's agenda through Congress, sooner rather than later. Not only are the individual parts of that agenda popular, but Biden and the dems need to be seen as being able to get things done. Unfortunately we don't have total unity right now on that.

This is what McConnell is focused on . He and the Repubs had tried to blockade Obama's efforts toward forwarding the Dems agenda the same as he and his cohorts are attempting to do now with Biden. I recall how the Repubs tried their best at hanging a "Do Nothing President" sign around his neck. McConnell is at it again. As I think you had alluded to, the big difference being Mitch now has Manchin and Sinema doing his work for him.

It’s weird how our resident traitor, taj, is absent in this thread. You’d think he’d at least be defending his corrupt cult leader. I guess it’s easier to not deal with it by pretending it never happened.

And imagine, this guy is going to be our next President (again).

In a fair game that wont happen, but I am not sure how much of the game they've been able to rig (and be able to up till 2024).
If Trump takes the crown again its gonna be full onset "Night of the Long Knives"... and then everything is fucked.
Right now he is losing support and influence by the day.

Dem playmakers may be trying to get him to announce he is actually running these days, cause the sooner he announces the better for dems 2022.

Finally getting a clue to the new Russia love by the right?

Funny how conservatives used to scream about relativism all the time. Crickets now.

Look where we are right now as a direct consequence of trump and his lackeys. Fuck having him anywhere near the oval office ever again. I doubt he'll pay any penalty in any way for the insurrection on Jan 6, but that fat, narcissistic fuckwomble should never hold any office again.
