I think everyone needs to go back and read Orwell's 1984.

Who knew that all Democrats...Republicans except Ron Paul...correction...all politicians would become apostles of J. Edgar Hoover, hell-bent on becoming the powerful, all-knowing moral police. Terrorists? Yeah, right. This is nothing more than a ploy to tear down people (Petreaus). How soon will they tear you down?

The Demwits don't care look at the majority of them . Other than the Rich whites that lead them . They are the bottom feeders the sick weak spirited people of the earth. We lived out of tune with nature and now the tuner is going to make his appearance. This planet can only maintain a pollulation of 2 billion . We are now 7 billion. Divide and kill 5 billion people is what its all about ./ Right now I causing a bit of concern for those in power . I going to use 2 words here you won't understand . But they will and trust me these 2 words will likely cause me much sorrow . 1st word is a city in MN. Austin . The second word is Elk River. a closed down concret forming company . I know your secret . I seen what your doing . You will never come out alive . A promise I make to them .

How many times will this be reposted? My guess is every time it makes it through another layer of the Republican hate machine. Third layer acheived.

Did you even bother reading your own link:

This [changed bill] is a bitter setback for Internet companies and a liberal-conservative-libertarian coalition, which had hoped to convince Congress to update the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act to protect documents stored in the cloud.

How do you get from a bill in progress, whose wording hasn't yet been finalized and which hasn't yet been voted on, to the conclusion that "all Democrats" support laws like this one?

I'm a Democrat and strongly oppose allowing access without a warrant to ANY form of private communication.

Care to amend your post?

Not only that, but by the time this RP bot found out about it, the changes have already been scuttled.

Why the hell can't they get a warrant? It's hasn't hampered investigations in the past.

One person participating in Capitol Hill meetings on this topic told CNET that Justice Department officials have expressed their displeasure about Leahy's original bill. The department is on record as opposing any such requirement: James Baker, the associate deputy attorney general, has publicly warned that requiring a warrant to obtain stored e-mail could have an "adverse impact" on criminal investigations.

The Justice Department, just like all other law enforcement, can't understand that they shouldn't get free reign over the citizens just because their job is to catch bad guys.

That "liberal-conservative-libertarian coalition" is good to remember, as this kind of thing is anathema to classical liberals. Progressives and conservatives are both generally in favor, the former because it's empowering government (Peace be upon It) and the latter because they assume people should have nothing to hide anyway so we aren't really losing anything. Libertarians and libertarian-leaning conservatives are opposed on principle, but the Democrats are not on balance notably worse than the Republicans on ignoring the 4th Amendment.

We all have tendencies to jump on one side, which in most issues is a virtual guarantee that the other party will do the exact same thing without our knowledge or worse, with our approval. This isn't really a huge issue with me as I assume email and phone calls are not private anyway, but I'm coming to understand that as this progression inevitably marches on, eventually all our oxen will be gored.

This sounds like the thinking of a potential domestic terrorist.

Consider yourself reported to the Department of Fatherland Security.

Democrats tend to support warrantless searches as much as republicans do, potentially even more.

Why do you hate America? The police are here to protect us, they need the proper powers to do so.

That's just goofy conspiracy theory. I don't think Petraeus' affair was a security threat, at all, but once a self righteous FBI agent had revealed it to Cantor, breaking the rules to do so, Obama was forced to accept Petraeus' resignation.

It might have otherwise been forgotten. The Obama Admin didn't set out to tear down Petraeus- right wing jerks did that in their zeal to discredit the Admin.
