WASHINGTON ? Spurred by President Bush's slumping approval ratings, the Republican-controlled Senate - for the first time - is drawing lines in the sand over war, pushing the White House on issues ranging from treatment of detainees to strategy in Iraq.

The rift between the Senate and the WH is no doubt becoming larger as the year goes on. Will this assertion by the Senate cause the WH is to take a step back or become even more aggressive?

George W. Bush is a rugged cowboy who lives by his own rules, or at least he is in his head. He'll stubbornly refuse to give the Senate what it wants.

I don't think so...the Republican congress is finally realizing that they aren't just an extension of the executive branch. This sudden "balling" might have more to do with the slump in Bush's approval ratings than anything else, but still, I'm glad to see they are waking up. Bush would be smart to realize this, if he pushes them even farther away, he'll have a tough time. He is not a person who plays well with others, but a little work now will save him a lot of headaches down the road.

There is no guarantee they will read these either! They get dozens already and they are privy to classified communications through the STARS network. Most, if not all of them get them on thier desktop computers. This will just build another bureaucracy in an already overburdened system - for paper!

Prediction: Osama (Been Deaded) will speak before the 2006 elections, Osama will be located and snuffed out, the only evidence Osama existed will be a crater, and Bush's approval ratings will soar. But the Dems will still gain momentum from the protest vote. What does this have to do with the latest thread?

Most of Bush's defenselessness from criticism is his inability to finish anything, especially the destruction of the enemies of state. Sure he got Saddam, but that little pissant dictator was done even before the invasion. Bush has yet to really carry on his 2004 campaign promises.
