Senate approves anti-spam bill

The U.S. Senate voted Wednesday to outlaw deceptive "spam" e-mail, and set up a "do-not-spam" registry for those who do not want to receive unsolicited commercial e-mail.

Internet "spammers" who flood e-mail inboxes with pornography and get-rich-quick schemes could face jail time and million-dollar fines under the bill, which passed by a vote of 97 to 0.

The vote marks the first time the Senate has taken action against an online scourge that now accounts for 50 percent of all e-mail traffic, frustrating consumers and costing businesses bandwidth and productivity.

I figure it will do little to stop it and I further imagine that do not email list will end up being a spammers wet dream.

What if its coming from russia/etc.

I love CNN's quick poll on this:

Do you like receiving spam e-mail?
Yes 4% 323 votes
No 96% 7127 votes
Total: 7450 votes

They're going to have a fun time enforcing it when the majority of Spams come from other counties. Not to mention the fact that they're making a no-spam list that will be worth it's weight in gold to any spammer.

You guys should just block all email coming from countries other than the US, UK, Canada, other countries that you might actually communicate with.
