Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Sunday that it’s time to consider international intervention in Syria to avoid the further “slaughter” of people there by President Bashar al-Assad’s forces.

“If it made sense to protect the Libyan people against Gadhafi, and it did because they were going to get slaughtered if we hadn’t sent NATO in when he was on the outskirts of Benghazi, the question for the world [is], have we gotten to that point in Syria,” Graham said on the CBS' "Face the Nation."

“We may not be there yet, but we are getting very close, so if you really care about protecting the Syrian people from slaughter, now is the time to let Assad know that all options are on the table,” said Graham, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Over 1,000 civilians have been killed in recent months in a crackdown against the uprising there, according to human rights groups.

“It has gotten to the point where Gadhafi’s behavior and Assad’s behavior are indistinguishable,” Graham said, and noted “You need to put on the table all options, including a model like we have in Libya.”

Hypocritical sack of shit should have had Bahrain on the table a long time ago then, but nooooooo we don't want to jeopardize our relationship with one of our "favorite" tyrants would we? We only rain missiles down on the murdering governments who we aren't directly supporting.

When negotiating there is no benefit to saying it's NOT on the table. However, are they seriously considering it? I don't know.

It seems a lot more sense to be made to target and destroy some of these regimes. If Gadhafi had been taken out by bombs back in March the rebels would already be in control.

What are the military issues - what are our options and the expected results?

What are the positions of the nations in the region?

On the one hand, we should look at this - do we have a chance to save a lot of people's lives and increase their freedoms with practical measures?

On the other, we need to have some caution, and not abuse the situation as a power grab, to extend US power globally one more step, to put our own puppet in place.

This should go through the UN, as helping to legitimate the agenda and avoid more precedents for single-nation aggression.

We might mean well, but the next time could be a pretty evil agenda hiding behind lies.

Mexico is sooooooo fvcked, they are now hanging people from overpasses in Monterrey.

It's almost as if there's another country pouring billions of dollars into their criminal organizations, strengthening them to commit violence and seize power.

I have to agree with Senator Graham, a US military intervention in Syria should always be on the table. But to say its a wise present option may more depend on the Arab League, the UN, the larger world, and our allies.

But the current actions of Assad make his removal inevitable. At the end of the day, most of that job may be through Turkish actions.

A wiser USA is learning the time of unilateral US mid-east actions are long past. IMHO we are dong the right thing in Libya by confining our self to only being part of a coalition.

WE are the coalition. Without US there is no NATO.

I support distributed power in the world, with some setup that prevents wars, over having one global power that dominates, because of justice and rights for everyone.

I understand some people don't care about that and would be thrilled for their country to rule the world and exploit others, as long as they benefit.

But they don't understand, that if that happens, the very nature of being such a power is going to leave them with fewer rights and a lot more tyranny over them as well.
