Marvellous how Dodd's vote for Ashcroft is now used against him. Dodd was, at the time, under the mistaken impression that the Dems could work with the Bush Admin, and that a show of willingness to compromise would be viewed favorably, rather than as a sign of weakness... Kinda like a sixteen year old ingenue who thinks she can party with the Hell's Angels and not get raped...

what dodd said was very similar to what lott said, and although i dont think either statement is bad, dodd sure emphisized his point much stronger that lott.

If Dodd was being racist, so were Senators Frist and Stevens (both Republicans) in their respective remarks:

well, exactly what "role" would he have played in the civil War?
gee, maybe the role he selected to play in the Movie Gods and Generals, where he portrayed a Confederate General! Lez get on with the lynchin, the hangin, and shootin the Yankees! Yep, he WOULD be perfect then.

However, if Trent Lott had played the part of a Confederate general in this movie, can you imagine the outrage of the liberals! they would exhaust themselves denouncing him!

now, i've seen some liberals try to defend Dodds statement by claiming that Dodd "didn't know" about Byrd's racist past. Oh please....

give it up..either Dodd and Lott both screwed up, or Dodd and Lott meant nothing harmful. any other position makes you a rabid partisan.
