Conspiracy theorists claim Stalin had an illegitimate son, and that Dodd is Stalin's grandson.

Marvellous how Dodd's vote for Ashcroft is now used against him. Dodd was, at the time, under the mistaken impression that the Dems could work with the Bush Admin, and that a show of willingness to compromise would be viewed favorably, rather than as a sign of weakness... Kinda like a sixteen year old ingenue who thinks she can party with the Hell's Angels and not get raped...

It's obvious you're just an idiot since you cannot see beyond the end of your nose as it's buried up Bush's ass.
If you honestly think Dodd was supporting Byrd's KKK history in his statements, you should be on some medication.

Lott was specifically referring to the Dixiecrat party (and its racist, segregationist views)
?When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we [in Mississippi] voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either.?
If Dodd was being racist, so were Senators Frist and Stevens (both Republicans) in their respective remarks:
"Without question, when history is written, Senator Byrd will hold a prominent place as a Senate legend. "
I see they have a nice little "Report this to a Moderator" button now for these sorts of situations
?When Strom Thurmond ran for president,(in 1948, on a racist platform), we [in Mississippi] voted for him.(We believed in his racist message.) We're proud of it. (Proud to have been{?} racist) And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either. (with uppity blacks and integration)?

Let me fill in the blanks for you, JosphII, reveal the coded message-
?When Strom Thurmond ran for president,(in 1948, on a racist platform), we [in Mississippi] voted for him.(We believed in his racist message.) We're proud of it. Much of modern Republican appeal in the South is similarly based- "States Rights", "Law and Order", "Entitlements", "Welfare Queens", "School Choice" and a host of others all carry hidden connotations among the politicians and voters alike. Everybody knows what they're talking about, just can't come right out and say it....

massive non-stop delusional behavior and denial by the liberals that one of their own might actually have racist tendencies or worse, mispoke.
Liberals can never admit they screwed up.
lets break down Sen Dodd's statement. in particular this one part of it:
"He would have been right during the great conflict of civil war in this Nation"
well, exactly what "role" would he have played in the civil War?
gee, maybe the role he selected to play in the Movie Gods and Generals, where he portrayed a Confederate General! Lez get on with the lynchin, the hangin, and shootin the Yankees! Yep, he WOULD be perfect then.
However, if Trent Lott had played the part of a Confederate general in this movie, can you imagine the outrage of the liberals! they would exhaust themselves denouncing him!
now, i've seen some liberals try to defend Dodds statement by claiming that Dodd "didn't know" about Byrd's racist past. Oh please....
give it up..either Dodd and Lott both screwed up, or Dodd and Lott meant nothing harmful. any other position makes you a rabid partisan.
