Bunning from KY will not seek reelection. Two front runners to take his seat are R. Trey Grayson who will be running and R. Rand Paul is very likely and gaining support to run in the primary.

The more I hear Rand Paul speak the more I like him. He is interviewed what seems like every week here. I would be proud to have him represent my state.

Its should be an interesting GOP primary in Kentucky for 2010.

But given the fact that Mitch McConnell came close to losing in the general in 2008, means the democrats will be after that open Senate seat as well. The incumbent usually has a big advantage making that Senate race wide open for 2010.

Of course you can, we watched the Ron Paul Blimp in 2008, lots of hype, but when the hot air deflated when the people came to the polls to vote, all that was left was a lot of scrap toilet paper, and disappointed wiped out aholes,

Will the same fate befall the son of Godzilla in Rand Paul, who knows, time will tell.

I imagine Ron Paul's son will be about as good at winning Senate elections as his dad is at winning presidential elections.

It's ironic that the Left bashes fiscal conservative, socially liberal, anti-war Republicans.

Not shocking, but ironic nevertheless.

Wrong song man, us dimocrats delight in watching any GOP famdamily feud, with luck it will split the the GOP party in the general election.

Of course the GOP played the same song as Obama and Hillary battled it out in the 2008 democratic Presidential primary, and numerous posters hoped for a similar democratic famdamily feud as Hillary took her feminazi supporters with her.

Well many a slip between cup and lip, only time and events will see how the Senate election goes in Kentucky in 2010. But its never too early to stock up on the beer and popcorn.

My prediction is no prediction.

How is it in any way ironic?

Ron Paul supports many policies that people on the left do not like. The left is not fiscally conservative. Ron Paul is heavily anti-abortion, one of the most important issues to many on the left, he's also a supporter of 'don't ask, don't tell', things like that.

(he's also a supporter of an insane scheme to re-create competing currencies within our country... as if that wasn't disastrous enough the first time around. This is something that people of all political stripes should be able to unite to bash him on. )

The opposite is true as well. His opposition to the war on drugs is a perfect example. Of course, that's something the Democrats don't have the balls to take on, and instead show their own social conservatism with things like taxes on cigarettes.

The left is not fiscally conservative.

You're right, and he's not running as a Democrat. ;)

Look, my point is, and what you fail to see is, when one party gets "better," it forces the other to be "better," too. I mean, maybe I can put this in a way techies can understand. If one were an Intel fan, would they really want AMD to completely suck ass? No, they'd want AMD to offer a good product, because that makes Intel offer a good product.

Ron Paul is heavily anti-abortion, one of the most important issues to many on the left,

That's not exactly true, or at least it's not the full story. That's his personal POV, but he does not support legislating or regulating abortion at the Federal level. And that's exactly the difference between a social conservative and a social liberal, the question of using government to dictate morality.

he's also a supporter of 'don't ask, don't tell', things like that.

I'll post his words, and people can make up their own mind...

http://www.americablog.com/200...lity-sin-and-dont.html

LOFTON: Do you believe it [homosexuality] is a sin?

PAUL: I have not...I'm not as judgmental about that probably because of my medical background, so I don't see it in those simplistic terms; I think it's a complex issue to decide whether it's sin or other problems with the way people are born. It's to me too complex to give an answer as simple as that.

LOFTON: Do you believe that God says it is a sin?

PAUL: Well, I believe a lot of people understand it that way, but I think everybody's God's child too, so I have, you know, trouble with that.

LOFTON: Well, actually everyone's made in the image of God, but not everyone's a child of God. Some of them are children of the devil...

...

LOFTON: We'll try to stop anyone from getting in the military who is a homosexual, who is an adulterer, who is a fornicator, and then other categories that indicate a character flaw. Why we shouldn't try to do that?"

PAUL: Looking it in protecting the military if they are going to perform the services, and they are imperfect -- because we're all imperfect and we all sin. If a heterosexual or homosexual sins, that to me is the category of dealing with their own soul. Since we cannot have only perfect people going in the military I want to separate the two because I don't want to know the heterosexual flaws, nor the homosexual flaws and that's why I got in some trouble with some of the civil libertarians because I don't have any problem with Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Because I don't think that, for the practicality of running a military, I'd just as soon not know every serious thing that any heterosexual or homosexual did, and those flaws have to do with all our flaws because each and everyone one of us has those imperfections.

Considering the previous 8 years under Bush, that's exactly what the Republican party could use. Like I have said before, it's all about direction, not so much the destination.
