Sempron64 v. Celeron D

which one would be better for gaming AMD Sempron 3000+ or Intel Celeron D 331 64-bit?

Semprom 3000+ will be much better in everything, also those are cooler and maybe cheaper and oc damn good.

I'd say Sempron would be better. I've owned two Delerons and three P4 Prescotts and I gave up on all Prescott cores after my experiences - of course I was overclocking. Some did overclock well, but the temperatures couldn't be handled easily. Didn't help that I used to live in the SoCal desert and during the summer the A/C can barely keep the temperatures in the 80's.

Look for Fry's Electronics deals. When you see the Sempron 3000+ with an ECS NFORCE3-A motherboard for around $100, grab it. May or may not be 64 bit but what do you intend to run in the next few years that needs it?

I would say for gaming that the vid card is the place to spend money since a higher end model will make any modern CPU a competent gamer, but you likely wouldn't be looking@ budget CPUs if you planned to buy a expensive vid card. In which case, the Sempr0ns offer the best gaming price- performance, they run cool, and overclock very well on stock cooling.

To an extent. A Celeron pushes the envelope as to a "modern cpu"

64 bit shouldn't be extremely imprtant in the near future, just besure that you get a socket 754 Sempron, not Socket A.

I would personaly purchase a Sempron 3000/3100+ over a Celery D 3.06 any day of the week. My school is all Celery D 2.93 GHz machines, and they are nothing special. Plus our labs w/ 30+ of these computers are hotter than the furthest reaches of hell.

A good choice, if you are familiar with basic OCing though, you could purchase a 3100+ and easily attain the same or better performance than the 3400+ sempron. probably on stock vCore. Saves yourself $25 that way, however if the warranty is important to you, get the 3400+

That is pretty much our "bible" of Athlon64 overclocking. Same principles hold true for the Socket 765 Semprons. Don't know why it is not sticky any more.

Be Warned though.... It's adicting once you get your first successful OC
