I've decided on getting a Foxconn 760 motherboard to upgrade a computer. From what I know, it'll run Sempron 2600, 2800, 3000, 3100, and 3300, ranging in price on Newegg.com from around $72 to $137 (as of 7/05). The bottom 3 are about $10 different in price, the top 2 are about $20 different from the ones below it.
I know this same motherboard will also run Athlon 64's - 2800, 3000 and 3200, ranging in price from $120 to $190.
Question -
Although I do not plan on overclocking this computer, and would use it basically for internet use, mild gaming, and lots of Spreadsheet, Word Processing and SQL Database stuff, some DVD editing and DVD burning, which of the processors is the best bet?
I am chiefly debating on the Athlon 64 2800 versus the Sempron 2800 or the Sempron 3000 CPU's. The Semprons are $83 and $94 respectively, and the Athlon 64 2800 is $120. I have not been able to find a comparison of the Semprons versus the Athlons.
My main concern is to keep the cost down, but the performance at the highest level that I can for the money. I'm replacing a K7S5A with I believe an Athlon or Duron processor (I cannot remember which it is). I know it's socket A.
Any advice appreciated.
