That's not entirely true.

A 3000+ Sempron socket 754 is much faster than a socket a Athlon 3000+.

If you're on a super tight budget, hop on the sempron bus, if not then athlon is a better choice. I have an OC'd sempron 2400 (1.66ghz) running at 2.11ghz rock stable, probably could go to 2.3 or higher if I had an nforce2 board. Idles at 38c on stock cooler, 43c loaded. IMO, good chip for the price (got mine for 76$ CDN with tax).

Either an Athlon64 or xp would be better than a sempron for gaming. My old Athlon xp 1800 could handle HL2 and COD pretty well.

A Socket 754 (K8) Sempron is better than an Athlon XP/Socket A Sempron, but is worse than an Athlon 64 (Sockets 754 and 939). With Semprons it gets sort of confusing, so try to be more specific please.

The Sempron 3100 does well against the XP3200 with games although I prefer the xp2500 to the Sempron Socket A!
