if that site is legit, it looks like the sempron might be able to take the barton OCing torch, but obviously not to the same degree.

Doesn't the Sempron only have 256KB of cache? That's what Anand says on their preview, at least. Couldn't that have a negative effect on the Sempron? Also, even with the lower cache, aren't they more expensive?

Sorry to turn this topic around, I just wanted to clear up some issues I had with the Sempron series. Thanks, if anyone helps me out.

Mama the sempron negitive effect does'nt seem to negitive does it? A little less than the difference between the old tbredB's and barton...almost none.

More expensive? No. Retail pre release, which these chips never go for is $124. Expect less than $100 street. While the newcastle in the same speed is $175 street. This is much cheaper.

that $75 difference is either the mobo or a stick of 512 ;)

Let's see some real world benches..
Duron is pretty close to athlon clock for clock for these synthetic benches.

The extra heat/power usage had to come from somewhere. I guess AMD decided that more heat and less performance would just be a stupid thing to do.

God Kyle is an IDIOT...

The Tweakers.net staff have posted early Sempron benchmarks that confirm what most people know already?the budget CPU is an underachiever in the performance arena. The tests show a Sempron 3100+ coming in well below an Athlon64 2800+ in all but one benchmark.

Actually I guess it was Steve from HardOCP.... but COME ON, of course its not as fast as a full out A64, that would be pretty stupid on AMDs part. But it seems like it is by no means slow, and is fast for the price.

754 only. 754 will eventually be the value socket only. So Sempron is only for Socket A and Socket 754.

I would'nt say that Jason. Unlike a northbrige change, everytime AMD changes memory controller now they need a new socket.
