hey so im looking to build 3-5 sempron-based computers for my dads office in the next week or so and im wondering what chipset would be best. im really looking for onboard sound and LAN and possible video too, since they are office computers they dont really need too many bells and whistles and no more than 256mb on wxp I recon...

i want to go with an nforce2, is that still the best and most cost-effective alternative out there?

thanks for any suggestions, feedback, what have you! :)

There are also s754 Sempron's. might want to look at them and use a K8M800 chipset. I built a Sempron 3100 system using the MSI K8M Neo-V and it works like a charm and wasn't much more $ than building say a Sempron 2500 based system.

from what i understand the s754 ia a higher end chipset though right? im going to look some prices up, but it looks like were goin with 2200 semprons all around.

edit: 754s are definitely higher end :)

Sorry, didn't realize you were going that budget. I'd recommend then going w/ a KM400 chipset based mobo. It'll save you probably $20-$30 per mobo. and the graphics suck for 3d, but if you don't game, who cares? :)

Cheaper Socket 754 semprons are coming out and these are going to be fairly cheap especialy the 2600+.
