Folks, this deal is from eCost.

Sempron 64 3000+

These deal seems limited since the 754 processors are now a couple of generations behind and even the 939 are being liquidated right now. I personally got an Opteron 165 (1.8GHz Dual Core, 2x1mb L2 cache) for only $155 to update my system for the next 3 years. Enjoy.

In the description, they say it has a 128kB cache and is a socket 754. But under "product detail", it says it's a socket AM2 with 256kB cache and running at 1.6 GHz. I think that's a mistake, though. If it's a SDA3000BXBOX, it's a 754 running at 1.8GHz with a 128kB cache.

That's a lot of computing power for the buck, though. Most of them overclock nicely, as well. And 754 with a single stick of RAM is nearly comparable to 939 in performance.

good deal but shipping kills it for me (considering they were $31.45 shipped from buy.com with google checkout last month... we got several ;) )
ps- looks like this offering is limit 1, so cant even buy a quantity to offset the per item shipping.. oh well..
good find either way

It shows up as the right price, but the ground shipping is almost $9! that's third of the cost of the chip. By the way, is this chip faster than a regular 32bit socket 754? Or is this able to just run 64bit stuff?

Yesterday with ecost. Their page shows up at the right price and has a link for another $10 off with GC. When I tried that, the price on the GC page went up to $92.

However, I tried again today, and it worked correctly.

Ordered one, hope it's 754, since I have an entire 754 system sitting around only missing the CPU (which I toasted about 4 months ago). If it's AM2...well, time to go mobo shopping I guess :).

It came up $27.99 for me, plus a little less then $9 for shipping (with a micro-SD card for $5AR to spread that shipping out).

The part number is the same as the retail version, with fan and heatsink, at other retailers. With the mismatch in the description between AM2 and 754, who knows?

Added 1/14
Mine arrived. Retail box with heat sink and fan. Seemed like older stock since the biodegradable packaging fell apart in my hands.

Use google checkout to take 10 off. It pretty much covers ground shipping for me plus 1 dollar off :)

Any idea if it includes HSF? It doesn't indicate it does, but it says retail so I wasn't sure.

EDIT: NM looking up the MFG # it does have the HSF

Sempron 3000+ Palermo is actually clocked at 1.8ghz, not 1.6ghz like the eCost site says...

Is this cpu better than my current one? I have a AMD Sempron 64 2800+ Palermo cpu that I installed about 6 months ago. Would it be worthwhile for me to pick up one of these?

I know the model numbers are different and I would suppose that the 3000 would be better than the 2800+, but with marketing these days, who knows.

Appreciate any feedback from those in the know!

(Hmmm, maybe a nevermind - checked the Ecost site and this cpu is now going for $62+, not $28 any more.)
