Just curious. I have a budget system I'm building. I want a pretty quiet CPU fan...at least as quiet as my old Speeze Socket A Falconrock. Any opinions on subject retail HSF?

Thanks,
CxP

It should be pretty quiet, especially if you use Cool & Quiet.

Well, the Sempron 64 2600+ should run very cool, so it may be possible through fan-controller software, such as speedfan, or hardware fan controllers, to turn the fan speed right down, or even off, so you can get a very quiet experience.

The Sempron 64 2600+ doesn't support Cool and Quiet btw, as it is so cool anyway!!!

The fan is reasonably quiet - I've got a retail box 2600+. If your motherboard BIOS supports "smart fan" then enable it and it'll be near inaudible.

The cooler is very quiet and I can confirm that it does not appear to support cool-n-quiet as stated.

It is weird, however, that AMD provides CnQ Utilities for the Sempron on their website

They don't appear to do anything that I can tell (using CPUz to measure clock speed).

Supposedly the 90nm Semprons 3000+ and above have Cool and Quiet.

I used a fan mate on 2 of mine with no problem. As far as getting CnQ to throttle it down... no dice. Semprons run cool enough so I finally gave up on trying to make it work. I have an MSI and a Gigabyte with a 3100 and a 3400 Sempron. I tried stock with the BIOS updated, settings enabled, AMD drivers, XP, all the patches, 1-2 DIMMs, Corsair, Crucial, power settings tweaked, chicken blood and magic dust and never could get CnQ to work with either one.
