Sempron 3100+ OC question

I'm still in the process of stress testing my Sempron 3100+ OC on a Chaintech VNF3-250 mb, 512mb Corsair Value Select Ram PC3200, and an Antec Tru380w PSU.

Right now I have it set at HTT 270, HT 3x, memory at 166 and at idle the CPU temp is 48/ under stress it gets to 55.

1. Are those temps ok? I'm using a Thermaltake K8 Venus 7+ HSF.
2. I've read on here that people are pushing the HTT on their Sempron 3100+ to 300 with an 8x multiplier. This gives a rating of 2.4 ghz. My 270 is with a 9x mult. which gives ~ 2.43 ghz. Which is better? and why?
3. Is it better to try to keep the HT at 4x or 5x by keeping the HTT lower? or is it better to have a higher HTT and lowering the HT to 3x?

Sorry if these questions are noobish but with all the reading I've done I haven't found quite the answers that I'm looking for.

TIA

3) the multi doesnt really matter much for performance, so if you can get higher clocks, go with them even if it means a low HTT multi
2)300*8 would be better if you can, but really just benchmark it at both
1)yes, those temps should be fine. but why is your idle so high? there is no reason for it to idle that hot

I don't know why my idle temp is so high. What is a normal idle temp for these Semprons? Maybe the mb is reporting it wrong.

As far as the memory goes, should I try to find an HTT where I can run the memory at 200mhz or is it fine that I've turned the memory down to 166 and OC'd the HTT higher? I thought I read where it was better to keep the memory at it's rated setting which in my case would be 200mhz.

Thanks for the quick response "whatever".

That the way the Chaintech board reads it,my 2800+ idles at about the same here too.

Budman, what bios version are you running on your board? I'm still using the version that the board came with. I downloaded the updated version from the chaintech site but am unsure whether or not I should flash it.

I am using the latest one. I use winflash to flash from windows & it works very well.

given the speed of the memory and CPU speed have the greatest effect on performance, if you are running a 300 HTT it may or may not be the best depending on how you do your dividers.

i think the best way is to find max memory speed, max CPU speed, and then tried to find a compromise using multipliers and such. try stepping your FSB up by small increments (1:1 ratio) until you find the max memory speeds.

The temps are fine. With my xp-90 I idled in the high 40's with the vnf3-250. When I changed to the DFI recently, same cpu and proc, temps are in the low 30's.

my vnf3-250 has exactly same temps, Im using an arctic cooling silencer 64 TC, and i have 3 fans mounted on top of and around it, I dont know why but it likes to run hot. i had to stop overclocking and take the sides off the case because I was hitting 72C at full load :(

Budman,
I flashed my mb with the newest bios and couldn't get the HTT above 260 stable, so I flashed back to the bios that came with the board and have it at 265 and ran Prime95 overnight for 8 hours without any errors. So hopefully that means it's stable.

I have the settings as follows:
265 HTT
3x HT frequency
1.55 vcore
166mhz mem setting
2.5, 3, 3, 8
the rest are on defaults.

Have you tried going higher than 265 on this board? If so what settings did you use?

TIA

Yes I have ran at 267 for a while but my cpu isnt that great & needed 1.625v so I run at 9 x 250 with 4X HT making it 1000,at higher mhz you might need to use slower timings on your ram maybe try 2T from auto?
