Hey, all.

In my quest to upgrade my PC for the first time in close to two years, I've decided to go with a socket-754 Epox EP-8KDA3J ($68), which I'm told is a fantastic overclocker, and a Sempron 2800+.

Now I've got to decide, should I go with the 32-bit ($70) or 64-bit ($76) version? I'm told the 64-bit version can't overclock as well. Is that true?

Thanks in advance!

They should both be about the same... I don't see how adding 64-bit support should lower overclocking headroom. Shouldn't the 64-bit Sempron have AMD64 instruction though?

Well, that's what I'd expect, too. Unfortunately, I only get one shot at this, so I want to be sure. Does anyone actually have the 64-bit version? How far can you overclock on stock cooling?

It sounds like you expect a 3200+ while paying the price for a 2800+. Consider overclock as a bonus, not some included performance

I have a 64-bit 3300+ Sempron (2GHz) - it can OC easily to 2.5GHz on stock and 2.6GHz on my Zalman 7000 - IMO what you plan on doing should pretty easily reach the 2.3-2.4GHz range. :)

i think these sempron 64s are so new, no one has even reviewed them yet, and tthey arent even listed on AMD's site under sempron or on pricewatch.com

I have sempron 64 2500+ and it easily hit the 2418 mhz. if i have good ram i could easily hit 2500 or even 2600. the stock is only 1400 and it goes to 2400. 1000mhz increase temps only 33c. its incredible for $50 processor. it a palermo 0.09nm, 3BX .

Wow. I didn't know the Sempron 64 2500+ existed; if I had, I probably would have saved some money and gotten it. But I'm happy with my 2800+ @ 2.4 GHz.
