I have seen a decent number of reviews comparing the 3100+ (s754) sempron to the A64 and other CPUs, but I havent found anything comparing the lower end versions, so Im asking for info...

I am probably going to build my GF a new SFF pc and I am considering the Sempron 2400+ ($65 @ newegg). How does that CPU compare to a simillarly priced AthlonXP such as the 2400+? I am drawn to the Sempron because I am assuming it has lower power output, but that could be way off base. So what would you do?

thanks.

Socket A Semprons offer no advantage over Socket A AthlonXPs. In fact, they have the same core.

Socket 754 Semprons are faster than their Socket A counterparts.

If you're building a Socket A system, get a Mobile Barton. Double the L2 cache of the 2400+ Sempron, no multiplier lock, and 45w thermal rating. It's better all around.

I have that and other parts in the thread linked in my sig.
