Hi guys! Just wanna shout saying I bought an AMD Sempron 145 and my boards successfullly unlocked it to an X2 4450E. Haven't tried OCing it yet. I read that the 145 can't OC like the 140 can. We'll see how true that statement is.

The 145 has a higher multi so it should be able to oc higher. Of course you sometimes have better luck when your multi is at a whole number rather than one of those goofy half multi. (I think the sempron 145 has a 14.5 multi)

I haven't really tried overclocking my 140/145 (forgot which I got), especially since it was for my NAS/media server, but I was pretty happy with the unlocking part.

2010 called and they want their processor back!

;-)

And just for reference, the Semp 145 has a 14x multiplier.

I have it running at 3.5Ghz (14x250) for the past 20 hours or so. It's still chugging along just fine.

What did you use as a cooler for that?
I'm hoping i can get the mini-server here to pull a little more of its weight around. :p

Oh, I'm just using an original heatsink that came with my A64 3200+ on it. Works fine, not getting hot at all. I might put the Hyper 212 Plus on it, but I'm too lazy.

Sorry for the thread necro, but I am happy to report that my Sempron 145 appears to have unlocked successfully on an ASUS M5A97 motherboard at stock clocks. It's for a HTPC/file server with a HD6450 attached to it, so unlocking wasn't absolutely necessary, but I still appreciate the extra horsepower. :) Prime Large FFT has been going on for over 12 hours and I am getting ready to switch to small FFT for another 8 hours just to make sure. The unlocked chip passed 36 rounds of Intel Burn Test, albeit on 2GB RAM (all I have available right now). Used a spare Hyper 212+ cooler I had laying around with fan set on absurdly low speeds. Used a cheapo ATX case with one front and one rear 120mm Rosewill 44 cfm fan.

Sorry for reviving this old 3 year old thread, but I'm setting one up right now, which unlocks to Athlon 4450e, and I overclocked it up to 3.36 GHz max on stock voltage plus 1600 MHz memory RAM speed.

To my amazing surprise, this $8 value CPU is far faster than all the Intel Bay Trails and AMD Beema APUs out there. It is paired with the integrated Radeon HD3000 GPU chip on the motherboard.

Am I missing something here? It does look pretty competitive in performance for the low-end market today as of 2015. The new AMD desktops now come with E2-6110, A4-6210, A6-6310, and etc. How are these any faster?

They're not faster. But they're smaller, lower-power, and cheaper to mfg.

Looks like to me Sempron 145 was succeeded by Sempron 2650, AM1 socket, as the replacement. Single-thread rating dropped to 504 from 1135 I have right now. Overclock the Sempron 2650 can go up to 650 at top, but that's all.

Yeah but have you seen the power draw on the 2650? It's practically nil. A Sempron 145 uses more power on its own than an entire AM1 system.

Regardless, congrats to all the 145 unlockers in here! I'm pretty sure that you all got C3 chips so your overclocking should be better than what anyone had with a Sempron 140. And my 140 didn't unlock, either. Stupid thing.

98% of the newest Sempron 145 built after mid-2013 can unlock the second-core with no problem at all, known as Athlon 4450e. The last and final stepping code is WAEGC. Look for that one.

It ended production on February 2014 after a nice 4-year run.

I didn't realize they were still producing Stars chips for that long. Cool.
The last and final Sempron 145 shipment sold for only $9.99 retail box at Micro Center during winter 2014. If not all, they should be able unlock its second core with no problem as long as the stepping code is WAEGC.

Last time I saw the boxes, and according to serial number in all boxes, the highest and newest I found is February 2014 manufactured date. Then they're gone forever and never restocked. Currently, I have three January 2014 dates (used one so far) and only one February 2014 date. I plan to resell the February 2014 date for $59.99 shipped and market it as the "final-edition AM3 processor" (without the + at end).

The Chicago area stores still have the Sempron 145 in stock at the same $9.99 price. One store even has an open box for $6.99.

I'm sure they do. Who would purposefully buy a new single core processor in 2015, at any price?

It's NOT really a single-core, more of partial dual-core I would say. Micro Center's #1 best-selling motherboard of all time is the Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 (FREE after rebate with any FX processor), and it has a core unlocker feature to turn it into a dual-core Athlon 4450e. That's what I have right now.

Exactly, it's a nice little chip for those who know what to do with it. For $7 who can really complain?

Too many h8rs in here bashing the 145.

Yeah where all of my single core warriors at? It's perfectly fine for checking your email.

ROFL. Who uses a PC just for email? You'd use a phone for that, and guess what, phones are dual core at least now even a frisbee Windows Phone. The OS sits there and takes cycles. A single core is good for nothing in 2015.
