With the communication infrastructure of Puerto Rico in ruins, ham radio operators from the mainland have stepped into the breach.

The phone call from the Red Cross came in late Friday night, just as the full scale of Hurricane Maria's calamity began taking shape.

"We need 50 of your best radio operators to go down to Puerto Rico."

They are the few, the proud, the banished by their wives to the basement or the garage. :p

On NPR just now, I heard one of them use a lovely unofficial slogan appropriated from the Marines, parts of other services, and a host of civilian first responders . . . Semper Gumby . . . Always Flexible!

I'm not quite sure how that's "appropriated from the Marines," because just using "semper" in a slogan isn't a USMC exclusive...

First of all, what I said, and I quote, was, "unofficial slogan appropriated from the Marines, parts of other services, and a host of civilian first responders..."

Why don't you learn to read before you open you big dumb trap and just bleat out whatever is rattling around in your ignorant, low information brain pan?

Here, educate yourself:

From the Wiki:

Semper Gumby is an unofficial motto for the United States Marine Corps, United States Coast Guard, United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, Navy submariners, Navy Seabees, Army Unit Supply Specialists, and the Civil Air Patrol.

From Marineparents.com:

Semper Gumby in the Marine Corps means "Always Flexible" and is a play on the Marine Corps slogan "Semper Fidelis" or "Semper Fi" meaning "Always Faithful". In the Marine Corps, whether a family member or a Marine, we quickly learn that Semper Gumby is a way of life! He's a true icon of the Marine Corps family.

Well that's just fucked up...must be from the green hair squad...

I have a fairly good understanding of the Corps...My dad served 15 years before he was killed in Korea, I did my 4, and my son did 8. We ARE part of the Jarhead Clan...but silly shit like that is just...silly as fuck.

And as for this:
Why don't you learn to read before you open you big dumb trap and just bleat out whatever is rattling around in your ignorant, low information brain pan?
go fuck yourself.
Posting that kind of personal attack is highly inappropriate for a "Forum Director & Omnipotent Overlord Forum Director"
(especially one who regularly hands me infractions for things not nearly as severe.)

Any mod is free to post as a regular member. They have the same rights as you, or any other member. What you cannot do is bring up their modship and say that their standard is different from yours because they are mod. That simply is not true.

Don't you guys have kids that need yelling at to get off your lawns? It would be therapeutic for both of you.
