It all started here for me...
Today I was digging up someone's mailing address from my IRC logs when it occurred to me to add them up. Ready for this?
I have 127 separate IRC logs totalling about 12.5Mb of text.
Estimated total lines of conversation: approximately 300,000
...and that's just since the last reformat on the two computers that run mIRC! 🙂
According to the IRC stats maintained by SAK, the IRC channel has had 430 visitors since December 24th, 2000, just a couple months ago. That's over 200 unique visitors a month and thanks to BKehoe, it no longer includes random invasions by mad l33t ha><0rs, warez kiddies, raging anti-American nationalists (America has been the only nation ranted at, despite the very international mix of Team AnandTech chatters).
TwoFace holds the record for most conversation, with 14,000+ lines (I happen to be second, and not by much! Look out, TwoFace! 😀).
SAK used more nicknames than anyone else, with 576 variations (including SAK_grounded 😉).
The most-used word is "overall," which was used 1359 times, even moreso than "AnandTech," which only made fourth place, right behind "Windows." :Q Funny thing, I would have thought "UT" would be in the top 10... 😉
There are also some random quotes for the top 30 chatters, and there are always some amusing ones in there. 😉 I won't single anyone out, for fear of retaliation... 😀
I wish I could say for sure how many different countries are represented by our chat family. Here's the best list I can come up with, and I hope the rest of you can add to it: 🙂
Norway
Australia
Finland
Ireland
England
France
The Netherlands
Canada
South Africa
United States
Belgium
Greece
Singapore
Israel
Mexico (that's you, SwingBaby 😉)
I've seen folks from every continent except Antarctica.
People who might want to come by and say hello, maybe just lurk a bit, are all welcome. Refer to the Team AnandTech Chat FAQ for some quick tips on setting up for chat, and also note the irresistably-easy Java client at the very bottom of that page, which is as simple as pie.
We have special stats scripts written by Junk-y which allow you to check your SETI, RC5, OGR or GammaFlux stats right in the chat channel, and this is the launching pad for our usual UT, Q3A and CS games too. Conversation ranges from serious to very silly, covering practically any topic that is suitable for polite company. 🙂
edit: typo corrected.
