I'm going to an event that's considered semi-formal and I'm wondering what constitutes semi-formal? Is a dress shirt and khakis enough? And is a tie necessary? I don't want to be too formal...

Always better to be over dressed than under dressed. Semi formal means a suit. If everyone else is wearing khakis...then you take off the jacket.

Semi-formal sounds to me like jacket and tie (as opposed to suit or tuxedo).

Dress shirt + khakis are considered casual wear.

I think "Semi-Formal" would mean at least a dark suit, dress shirt and tie.

What kind of event is it?
