Semi-Defective Card?

After playing around with my new card for a few weeks, I've noticed two very odd things:

1) The card makes a noise when rendering. When I run a program that just renders a black screen with DirectX and achieve absurd frame rates (10000+), there is a noticable high pitched squeal. If I run something like Milkshape 3D, it translates into a rapid clicking sound when I move objects around. I don't know if this is a big deal or not. If I listen very, very closely I can hear the same thing on a friend's 6600 GT. I never heard it on my 9600 XT.

2) Every 5-10 minutes the card will render a corrupted frame. This is what really concerns me. It happens even when sitting at the desktop. I run dual monitors and it happens equally on both of them. The frame looks like it's scrambled, and for the split second it's up I can recognize a few elements. I don't know if this is a driver problem, a BIOS problem, or a hardware problem. Has anyone seen something similar?

First of all, the high pitched squeal is normal. It happened on my older cards, as well as on my x1900xt. That what happens when you render something at like 1000's of fps.

The second part I have not heard about, but is it happening in several different apps at various times, or just one app? Also, monitor your load temps with a program like atitool or rivatuner, and make sure the card is not going above 90C.

The second part is 'flickering', also a big topic at rage3d. Though it happens on nVidia cards too (like me :p). There's even a movie one of the users recorded, showing exactly, what he means (he used an external camera). Hope my x1950xtx won't have these problems. Will see tomorrow :)

according to the rage3d thread, the power supply is the cause, but youll need a large, qaulity one to silence it - read pg 6
